NEWBURGH, N.Y. - On Wednesday afternoon, Director of Athletics
Shane Bell announced the hiring of Steve Sosler as the next head men's and women's golf coach at Mount Saint Mary College.
"We are excited to welcome Steve Sosler back to campus as our new Head Men's & Women's Golf Coach", said Bell. "Steve was instrumental in starting the Men's Golf program at MSMC 13 years ago and we are exciting to see him take both programs to new heights. As an alum, former student-athlete and Head Coach, the passion that Steve has for Mount Saint Mary College and the commitment to student-athlete development is second to none. Welcome home Steve!"
Sosler makes his return to he Mount after starting the golf program in 2013. He was the Head Coach from 2013-2015, then transitioned to the Assistant Coach from 2015-2017. The first year the team finished 4
th overall for the conference tournament, 3
rd in 2014, 4
th in 2015, 2
nd in 2016, 2
nd in 2017, and 2
nd in 2018.
He was named Coach of the Year in his first year, 2013, and Owen Heath was named to the All-Skyline Second team. Heath was inducted into the Mount Saint Mary College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022 as the first golfer ever.
"I'm really excited to be back at the Mount. I'm looking forward to working with this group of student athletes to continue the growth of both the men's and women's programs, said Sossler."
Sosler, a pitcher for the Mount Saint Mary College baseball team from 1996-99, was a Skyline Conference second-team all-star in 1997 and a New York State Collegiate Baseball Coaches Association all-star in 1998, earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from MSMC in 1999.
