Baseball Ties Against Bard with Late Rally

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY. – The Mount Saint Mary College baseball team showed resilience tying the game late and finished in a 9-9 tie after eight innings as darkness ended play.

Rapid Recap

The Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st when Anthony Laietta laced a two-RBI double, scoring Alex Nalewajk and Tyler Crocitto, both hit by pitches. Bard responded instantly, knotting it at 2-2 with a sacrifice fly and an RBI single. Mount Saint Mary capitalized on Bard errors and wild pitches in the 2nd, pushing ahead 4-2 as Gregory Harrison and Shane Finch scored unearned runs. Bard stormed back in the bottom half, taking a 5-4 lead on a two-RBI single and a bases-loaded walk.

The Knights regained the lead in the 3rd, with Laietta hitting an RBI triple plating Tyler Van De Bogart and Anthony Voss adding an RBI single for a 6-5 lead. Bard tied it at 6-6 in the bottom of the 3rd when a run scored on a caught stealing. Mount Saint Mary went ahead again 7-6 in the 4th on an unearned run after a Bard error. The Raptors then surged in the 5th, scoring three runs on wild pitches taking a 9-7 lead.

Mount Saint Mary refused to give up, mounting a clutch 8th-inning rally. Chris Calvario was hit by a pitch, and Stephen Volk reached on a Bard error, setting up Luke Barone's game-tying two-RBI double down the left-field line to make it 9-9. Dale Beneway closed out the 8th for the Knights, allowing just one hit and striking out one to preserve the tie. With no daylight left, the game was called after eight innings.
