Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Mount Saint Vincent

NEWBURGH, NY. - Mount Saint Mary College baseball makes statement with a sweep over Mount Saint Vincent to begin conference play.

(Game 1)

The Knights struck early against Mount Saint Vincent, taking a 2-0 lead in the 1st when Luke Barone's triple to right scored Frank Signorelli and Tyler Van De Bogart. The Dolphins came back in the 3rd, tying it at 2-2 on a two-run homer and took to a 4-2 lead with a RBI single and an error-aided run. Mount Saint Mary evened it up at 4-4 in the bottom half, as Tyler Crocitto's two-RBI single plated Aidan Marshall and Van De Bogart. Christian Parisa's RBI in the 4th gave the Knights a 5-4 lead, but Mount Saint Vincent erupted for six runs in the 5th with a three-RBI double and a two-run homer to go back up 10-5.

Refusing to give up, Mount Saint Mary came right back in the 5th, cutting it to 10-9 with Noah Anderson's RBI single, Frank Signorelli's RBI hit, and three wild pitches. In the 6th, Adam Leone's two-RBI single scored Barone and Parisa, putting the Knights ahead 11-10. Joseph Moratori earned the win with a scoreless 6th, and Gregory Osterhout sealed it in the 7th, escaping a bases-loaded jam with two flyouts earning the save.

(Game 2)
 

The game started as a pitcher's duel, with no runs through three innings. Mount Saint Vincent broke through in the 4th when a fielder's choice  gave them a 1-0 lead. Mount Saint Mary responded quickly in the bottom half, tying it at 1-1 on Tyler Crocitto's RBI groundout and taking a 3-1 lead with Adam Leone's RBI single and Frank Signorelli's RBI hit. The Knights offense exploded in the 5th, scoring five runs on Aidan Marshall's  RBI, Crocitto's RBI groundout, Leone's RBI single, and Signorelli's RBI single plus a wild pitch, building an 8-2 cushion.

Mount Saint Vincent fought back in the 6th, narrowing it to 8-7 with a three-RBI double and an RBI triple off reliever Dale Beneway. The Knights answered in the bottom half, extending the lead to 11-7 with Marshall's RBI single and Leone's third RBI hit, helped by an error. The Dolphins clawed within 11-8 in the 7th on an RBI single, but Mount Saint Mary sealed it in the bottom of the 7th with Marshall's two-RBI single, scoring Luke Barone and Tyler Van De Bogart for a 13-8 final. Di Tullio earned the win, and Beneway closed it out after the game was called due to darkness.
