Rapid Recap
This game would be a battle of the defenses as goals were hard to come by, but Mount Saint Mary would get one on the board early after
Carter Laughman assisted
Joe Keating.
Kenny Leen, the backbone of the Knights' defense, made 7 saves on the day and not only leads the Skyline on save percentage at .614 but also leads the conference in goals against average at 8.00. The team's leading goal scorer on the year,
Larry Frank, would extend their lead to 2-0 with just under 6 minutes to play in the quarter. The Lions finally got themselves on the board a couple of minutes later as the game was 2-1 after the first. There wasn't a lot of action offensively in the second quarter, as both goalies were able to see the ball well. Bryn Athyn would get one in the back of the net halfway through the quarter to tie things up 2-2. This was the first and only goal of the second as were were tied heading into the break.
Luke Dombroski, one of the defensive leaders on the Knights squad, forced an early turnover off the draw allowing for a Mount Saint Mary offensive possession that
Joe Keating would capitalize on. Neither team would score for the remainder of the quarter as all 8 shots in the final 13 minutes would not make their way past the goal line. At this point, it felt like whichever team took a multi-goal lead was going to run away with the win. The Lions quickly responded to start the fourth tying the game 3-3.
Sean Burns would get his first action in net this season as he has played most of his time out in the field but was tested early and made his first career save.
Larry Frank got his second goal of the match to take a 4-3 lead. The Knights survived two different 30-second penalties midway through the quarter. With just over 2 minutes left in the game,
Henry Micyk would strike with what felt like the dagger to give the Knights a 5-3 lead. An awkward bounce off a
Kenny Leen save allowed Bryn Athyn to bat the ball into the net as the Lions gained some hope with 24 seconds left. The Lions won the ensuing faceoff, but the Mount prevented them from getting any scoring chances to come away with a 5-4 win.
