The Mount Saint Mary men's lacrosse team took the field for the first time this season looking to start the season strong. Senior attackman
Larry Frank got the Knights on the board first after a caused turnover from
Luke Dombroski which helped the Knights get on the board first. Plattsburgh responded a few minutes later with their first goal of the game to tie it up. The first quarter saw a lot of back-and-forth action from both teams. Plattsburgh added another goal to take a short lead. But Frank responded with his second goal of the game for Mount Saint Mary to tie it at 2-2 to end the first quarter. The Knights struggled to handle Plattsburgh's pressure at the beginning of the second quarter and were unable to stand their ground. The Cardinals controlled possession and added 3 goals to extend their lead. Mount Saint Mary struggled offensively in the second quarter and were unable to get many shots on goal. As the game went to halftime, the score was 5-2 in favor of the visitors.
The third quarter started very similar to the second as Plattsburgh quickly added a few more goals to their score. Senior defensive midfielder
Bobby DeSantis was one of the Mount's keys to their success in this game. DeSantis secured 9 out of 11 faceoffs for the Knights. The Knights were able to get more offensive sets this quarter but were unable to find the back of the net. Mount Saint Mary's junior goalkeeper
Kenny Leen continues to dominate despite the score. Leen is the backbone of the Knights's defense and made 17 saves with a 65% save percentage in this afternoon's match-up. The Knights were able to create better offensive opportunities in the fourth quarter.
Henry Micyk scored his first goal of the season off of a pass from
Robby Maurer who tallied his first collegiate point. As the clock winded down
Larry Frank completed a hat trick to give the Knights some momentum but it wasn't enough. Mount Saint Mary lost to Plattsburgh by the final score of 9-4.
