Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary celebrated Senior Day before their game with Merchant Marine honoring Casey Love, Lauren Petrie, Shannon Phelan, Lizzy Lofaro, Kate Hughes, Ciarra Quinn, and Erin Lofaro. The Knights went head-to-head with the Mariners earlier this season at Kings Point where they lost 68-65 in overtime. Kate Hughes got the Mount on the board first with a free throw, but the team would have a bumpy quarter for the first 7 minutes. Merchant Marine led 9-1 before the Knights finally scored a bucket. Brianna Guglielmo scored a layup to get the team back on track as she was the main offense for the Mount. Guglielmo was the only member of the Knights to score in double figures as she had a game-high 22 points. Mount Saint Mary bounced back towards the end of the quarter and was down 13-7 entering the second. The Knights got outrebounded 55-37, but their defensive toughness forced 26 Merchant Marine turnovers to balance things out and stay in the game. Lauren Petrie got the Mariners off guard on the fast break with a score and Brianna Guglielmo grabbed an offensive rebound forcing the Mariners to foul and get to the line on the next possession. Kate Hughes grabbed an offensive board and found Lauren Petrie open for three as the Knights took their first lead of the game 19-18. Mount Saint Mary would trail 28-25 entering the half.

A Sara Cashin layup followed by a Lauren Petrie three tied the game back up at 30-30 to start the third quarter. Both teams fought tooth and nail, but neither squad was able to lead by more than 5 points this quarter. Brianna Guglielmo continued to be a factor for the Mount on both ends of the court, scoring 8 points in the third. The Knights cut their deficit to 1 point on numerous occasions, yet Merchant Marine always seemed to respond with a bucket to cut any sort of run short. Guglielmo hit a huge basket at the buzzer to make the score 48-46 USMMA with just 10 minutes left in regulation. Ciarra Quinn started off the 4th quarter with two huge three-point makes in the first few minutes to put the Knights up 56-51. From here, Mount Saint Mary was held scoreless for three minutes before a Kate Hughes make at the 4:36 mark. A Merchant Marine three tied everything up at 58-58 with both teams having multiple chances to take a lead, but neither would take advantage and we headed to overtime once again. A smart play from the Mariners off the tip to start OT put them up 60-58. From their last make with 4:36 in the fourth quarter, the Knights would not make a field goal until 40 seconds left in the extra period as they trailed 64-61. Forced to foul, the Mount would be unable to catch up with Merchant Marine as they hit their field goals in the final seconds to beat the Knights in overtime once again 68-62.
