Mount Saint Mary took on Marywood University in the consolation game of the Washington and Lee Basketball Tournament on Tuesday afternoon. The Knights got off to a rough start, with
Conor Gemmill ending a 9-0 run from the Pacers to begin the game.
Matt Monaco would get two straight put-back makes on the offensive end to provide a spark off the bench for the Mount. Marywood would take a big 35-16 lead at the 7:26 mark in the half, as the Knights needed to shift the momentum to get back into the game. Matthew Walsh did a great job attacking the basket to get to the free throw line. The Mount had a big hill to climb in the second half as they trailed 47-29 at the end of the first.
The Knights opened up the second period of play on an 11-2 run where they would make 3 straight three pointers, including two from
Matthew Walsh. They were right back into the game, trailing just 54-46 with 14:48 still left to play after a tip-in from
Liam Lynch. The Knights hung around, but a 9-0 run from the Pacers late in the game gave them a 73-56 lead over the Mount. The Knights continued to battle late in the game, though it was ultimately too late to overcome a lead that large. Marywood won by the final score of 85-71, as
Matthew Walsh was named to the All-Tournament Team after a career-high 18-point, 6-steal performance.
