Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary got back into conference play at home as they took on St. Joseph's Long Island. The red-hot Knights got off to a great start with a 14-0 run to start the game, sparked by a
Sara Cashin and-one, as she and
Keira Frias combined to score all 14 of their points during the run. They held the Golden Eagles to no points in the first 6 minutes and 44 seconds of play. Cashin would finish off the first quarter with an offensive rebound put-back as part of her 11-point quarter.
St. Joseph's cut their deficit to just 6 midway through the second quarter; however, a
Brianna Guglielmo three sparked a 9-0 run for the Knights to boost their lead back up to 15. The Mount absolutely smothered the Golden Eagles on defense, forcing Long Island to turn the ball over 27 times, holding them to just 10 made baskets and 18.5% from the field all game. Mount Saint Mary would enter the half up 29-20, as they looked to continue their dominant defensive performance into the third quarter.
The Knights would do just that, holding the Golden Eagles to just 2-25 from the field in the second half. The Mount would turn it up on offense as well, shooting 44.8% from the field in the half, as they started the quarter on an 18-2 run.
Maggie Trinkaus scored 8 straight points for the Knights as part of a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double to go along with 5 steals. Freshman point guard
Reese Mayer stuffed the stat sheet as well with a team-high 6 assists and 6 steals.
The Knights were up 47-24 heading into the 4th quarter, but they continued their offensive onslaught with
Jenny Lopez crashing the offensive glass for an easy put back.
Brianna Guglielmo would complete her double-double at the start of the fourth to go along with
Maggie Trinkaus. This is the second time this season that multiple players have recorded a double-double.
Gabby Ziegenbalg would get in on the action with back-to-back made threes late in the fourth as the Knights ran away with this one 64-30.
