Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary had a big conference match in front of them at Sarah Lawrence with playoff seeding implications on the line. The Knights did not get off to the best start, as the Gryphons jumped out to an early 7-1 lead. They would find themselves down as much as 9 points, but began to rally back late in the set. Down 22-14,
Nicolette Pirro sparked an 8-0 run with back-to-back kills to tie the set up. Sarah Lawrence responded by scoring 3 of the next 4 points to win the first set 25-23.
The Mount showed heart with a late set comeback attempt, but really needed to get on the board with a second set victory. They got ahead 7-6 early on, though the Gryphons would score 7 of the next 8 points to lead 14-8. Eventually down 17-9, the Knights looked to get back into the set as a kill from
Ava DiScala made it 19-15, Sarah Lawrence. That was the closest Mount Saint Mary would get with the Gyrphons going on a 6-1 run to close out the set 25-16.
The Knights now needed to win three straight sets in order to come away with a victory. Things were tight all throughout the set as each team was trading blows with neither scoring more than 3 points in a row. The Knights were going to need their top two offensive threats,
Jonaiya Williams and
Julianna Simone, to step up if they were going to stand a chance against a formidable Sarah Lawrence squad already down 2-0. The Mount was battling as it was clear this set was coming down to the wire, as a
Kaitlin Dillon kill tied things up 22-22. Unfortunately, the Gyrphons would score the next 3 points to win the set 25-22 and come away with the victory.
