Mount Saint Mary looked to continue their winning ways as they went on the road to face Purchase College. The Knights got off to a really strong start, taking a 12-2 lead with a little help from birthday girl
Erin Lema and her 3 aces as part of a 6-0 run. The Mount continued to control the set the rest of the way as
Jonaiya Williams,
Julianna Simone, and
Ava DiScala provided the offense. Setters
Sofia Fredericks and
Vanessa Seymour split their duties this match as they both combined for 38 assists this evening. The Knights would take the first set 25-9 in dominant fashion, closing out the set with yet another 6-0 run.
The Panthers challenged Mount Saint Mary to start off the second set, but the Knights eventually got back into their groove with a 10-7 lead. An 8-1 run late in the set for the Mount gave them the edge 22-12, as they cruised to an eventual 25-14 second-set victory.
Down 7-6 to being the third set, the Knights responded by scoring 7 of the next 8 points, including 3 kills from
Ava DiScala to put Mount Saint Mary up 13-8.
Julianna Simone would step up with the next 3 points for the Knights, followed by
Jonaiya Williams, who would do the same, putting the Mount up 18-11. Purchase battled hard this set, making things a little bit interesting, but the Knights were able to fight off any sort of comeback and win the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.
