Mount Saint Mary is on the verge of yet another playoff berth for the 18th straight season, but were going to have to come up with a win over St. Joseph's Brooklyn if they were to get back in the race. The Knights opened up really strong after 3 aces from
Julianna Simone and 3 kills from
Jonaiya Williams helped give them a 7-1 lead. The Bears cut their deficit to just one, but
Nicolette Pirro provided some offense with 3 straight aces to put the Mount on top 14-8. Brooklyn continued to fight, making things close towards the end of the set as the Knights led 23-19. The Bears had no answer for the Knights' offense this game, which had 46 kills and 19 aces as they won the first set 25-19.
The Mount jumped out to an early 10-6 lead to start the second set. St. Joe's kept things close, but the Knights still managed to keep the lead for the majority of the set. Out of nowhere, the Bears managed to go on a 7-1 run at the end of the set to take their first lead of the match and win 25-21.
Once again, Mount Saint Mary got off to a big start with a 9-3 lead as
Sofia Fredericks found
Jonaiya Williams and
Nicolette Pirro for a plethora of kills. Pirro continued to dominate in the service game with 3 straight aces yet again, to make it 6 total on the match as they led 14-3. Brooklyn made things close towards the end of the set as they cut their deficit to five, but the Knights were out on a mission this game, winning the set 25-18 and retaking the lead 2-1.
Aubriana Boyce helped the Knights take a 13-5 lead to start the fourth set with a couple of aces as part of a 5-0 run. The Mount would go on yet another big run, scoring 7 straight points, including 3 aces from
Erin Lema, to take a commanding 22-10 lead.
Nicolette Pirro would put the icing on the cake with a kill to win the set 25-13 and the match 3-1.
