Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary looked to continue their hot streak against the top team in the Skyline. Manhattanville was coming off its 40th conference win in a row as the Knights hoped to upset the Valiants. The Valiants got off to an early 6-2 lead as the Mount looked to settle things down on their home court. The Knights hung around, with both teams trading points throughout the set until Mount Saint Mary finally made it a one-point game after a
Brooke Lavelle kill.
Ava Robles came up huge for the Knights defensively with a season-high 9 digs, diving across the floor to make acrobatic passes as she used her entire 5'0" frame. The Mount gave the 2-time defending Skyline champions a run for their money as
Julianna Simone continued her stellar season with 17 digs and 8 kills. The Knights fell just short in the first set, 25-23, but showed they could hang with any team in the conference.
Mount Saint Mary got off to a solid start to begin the second set, trailing just 8-7 after a
Jonaiya Williams kill. Manhattanville would go on a big-time 9-1 run that would open up the set for the Valiants as they led 17-8. The Knights went on to score 3 straight points, but that would be all. Manhattanville continued to dominate the set as they went on to win 25-14.
Teetering on the wire, the Mount was going to need to wake up in the third set after a shakey second set that put them in a 2-0 hole. The Knights trailed just 9-7 after 3 straight points from
Julianna Simone, as they looked to steal a set and get back on track. Unfortunately, Manhattanville scored 10 of the next 11 points after leading 14-12, which put them at match point. The Knights would fall 25-15 in the third set as the Valiants walked away with a 3-0 win.
