ARLINGTON, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball suffered a devastating overtime defeat to Vassar Saturday afternoon.

Mount Saint Mary continued a gauntlet of tough non-conference opponents as they faced off against Vassar College to start the New Year. The Knights started off with a dominant first quarter. They would be down 4-0 early but took the lead right from the Brewers 30 seconds later after a
Brianna Guglielmo three. The Knights shot a commanding 8-12 from the field and led 19-8 after the first quarter. Vassar found a response to the Knights' offense yet was unable to break through the Mount's defense. Though they were -7 in the turnover battle, Mount Saint Mary controlled the glass outrebounding the Brewers 66-43. Six different Knights had seven or more rebounds and three of them grabbed 10! Both teams were held to single-digit points in the second quarter as Mount Saint Mary led 28-17 at the half.
The Brewers cut the Knights lead to just four points as the Mount did not score until the 6:11 mark of the third quarter after a
Casey Love layup. Mount Saint Mary did find somewhat of a grove in the last 90 seconds of the quarter, scoring on their final three possessions to lead 38-30 entering the fourth. The Knights rode the struggle bus in the last 10 minutes of regulation, shooting just 2-22 from the field. Vassar took advantage and the lead right from the Mount at the 3:22 mark.
Angelina Donato secured a clutch offensive rebound and the score to take back the lead and also converted two free throws in the following possession to go up 44-41. Vassar got a good look with less than two seconds left and knocked down a three to take the game to overtime. The Knights shot only 1-16 during the overtime period as the Brewers only needed two made field goals. Vassar converted on 10 of their 13 free throws and came out on top over Mount Saint Mary 58-51.
