Rapid Recap
The Knights had a huge game in front of them against Merchant Marine as the winner would control first place in the Skyline. Angelina Donato got things started off with five straight points for Mount Saint Mary before the Mariners scored 10 unanswered. A couple of threes from Shannon Phelan and Elizabeth Lofaro kept it a close game in the first. Down 18-15 entering the next quarter, some reinforcements off the bench gave the Mount a boost. Kate Hughes scored a few points as the Knights would take back the lead 21-19. The size disparity between the two teams began to show in the final 2:30 of the first half as Merchant went on a 10-0 run.

Mount Saint Mary had an uphill battle on the road coming out of the locker room that would only get more challenging. The Knights faced a deficit as big as 14 when the Mariners took a 43-29 lead halfway through the third. One of Shannon Phelan's three makes from beyond the arc this game gave the Mount a glimmer of hope, cutting the Merchant Marine lead to single digits. The Knights caught a second wind and refused to quit. They outscored the Mariners 18-9 in the final 10 minutes of regulation as Sara Cashin stepped up big time for the Mount, scoring their last seven points including the tough finish to force overtime. You could feel the energy from Mount Saint Mary as they were so close to securing a comeback over the #1 team in the conference. Merchant drew first blood in the overtime period, but the Knights continued to feed the hot hand in Sara Cashin. Freshman Margaret Trinkaus, who has been battling an injury, played a huge defensive role for the Mount this game, though her best play of the day may have been her saucy up and under that caught her defender off guard making it a one-possession game. The Knights were unable to convert off a Mariner's miss as Merchant was able to close out the game from the free throw line 68-65.
