Rapid Recap
The Knights traveled for their second road match in a row, this time a neutral site game at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, New Jersey. Mount Saint Mary faced up against Skyline Conference foe Yeshiva University, whom they tied with in their match last season 2-2. This game did not start off well for the Mount as the Maccabees scored the first goal of the match at 41 seconds in to take a quick 1-0 lead. Senior Goalie
Caesar Martinez had yet to be tested this year, but the veteran wasn't going to let one goal faze him. He made a big save minutes later to stop a high shot on net. It didn't take long for the Knights to respond offensively as
Sam Bevevino buried a
J.C. Gutierrez pass off a free kick into the top right corner to tie things up 1-1. Yeshiva would turn it up a notch offensively trying to create chances, but the Knights had an answer for everything the Maccabees threw at them. Martinez's presence was felt in between the pipes as he would make six saves in the first half.
Mount Saint Mary looked to flip the switch in the second half and create more offensive chances. Their defense was stout in the first half as they were able to continue that momentum into the next 45 minutes of play. In the 60
th minute,
Quinn Tynan got a good look at a shot on goal that was saved by the Maccabees keeper. Neither squad got much on net as this game was the battle of the defenses. Freshman
Jeremy Burgos looked like he was going to break the tie in the 83rd minute, but his strike to the top left corner was saved, creating a corner for the Knights. They weren't able to take advantage as the game would end in a tie 1-1.
