Rapid Recap
Returning home after two road matches, the Knights looked to continue their hot start to the season. Six minutes in,
Marco Mazzarelli was able to counter a Tigers attack and feed
Quinn Tynan who seamlessly scored on the break. Cobleskill responded not even a minute later off a rebound from a
Caesar Martinez save. The Tigers would get two additional shots on goal minutes apart that were denied by Martinez. Head coach
Kevin Longacre did not like what he saw out of his team early on, quickly deferring to his bench and making three subs. Freshman
Dale Allison made his impact felt immediately in the midfield for the Knights. The Mount would only surrender two shots on goal for the remainder of the half, one of which was a tremendous save by
Caesar Martinez to get a leg on the shot and redirect the ball away from the goal.
Coming out of the half, the Knights knew there was business to take care of. Within the first 10 minutes of the second half, Mount Saint Mary had three beautiful scoring chances including a booming strike off a free kick by
Sam Bevevino. In the 61
st minute, the Knights opened the floodgates as
J.C. Gutierrez dribbled up the sideline and made a beautiful back-cut pass to
Robert Tansey who buried the ball into the top right corner to take back the lead. Tansey was not done yet, as
Marco Mazzarelli danced through the Tiger's defense, he dropped the ball off to Tansey who notched his second goal of the game to put Mount Saint Mary up 3-1. A dangerous tackle moments later by a Cobleskill player led to another
Sam Bevevino free kick from just outside the 18. It took a great rebound in favor of the Knights, but they were offsides on the second chance effort. Mazzarelli would get his career-high third assist of the match 78 minutes in as
Ryan Alvarado split two defenders for a magical goal. The Knights held off any last-ditch effort from Cobleskill and won the match 4-1. Mount Saint Mary has already surpassed their win total from last season and looks to keep things rolling.
