Rapid Recap
The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team opened up their season with their first of three matches at the Red Dragon Invitational. They faced off first against the host team in SUNY Oneonta. The Red Dragons would be the first team on the board and took an early lead in the first set. Down 7-4, a kill from Knight freshman
Julianna Simone sparked a small run that would bring the set to within one. Oneonta went on a 5-0 run that stretched their lead to 14-7. The Knights continued to battle, as back-to-back kills from
Ava DiScala and
Jonaiya Williams cut the deficit to four. The Red Dragons rallied thereafter as they won the first set 25-15.
The Knights knew they had to bounce back and came out with some flair going up 6-2 thanks to
Sofia Fredericks setting up
Jonaiya Williams and
Julianna Simone. Oneonta responded and the teams continued to fight back and forth for the lead. The Red Dragons saw a small opening and took it. The Knights were down 18-13 just like that as Oneonta finished off the second set on a 7-3 run to secure the 2-0 lead.
Mount Saint Mary struggled to open the third set as Oneonta jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead. A timeout would settle the Knights a little bit as they put three straight points on the board. The Red Dragons kept their distance as
Erin Lema tried to bring the Mount back into the match with a couple of kills. The deficit was too much to overcome as the Knights lost the third and final set by a score of 25-15 and the match 3-0.
