PURCHASE, NY – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team (1-7, 0-2 Skyline) put up a strong defensive performance but fell short to Manhattanville College (5-7, 1-1 Skyline) by a score of 10-6 on Sunday afternoon.
Knights Slow to Start The Knights came out slow after scoring streaks from Manhattanville that built a 5-0 lead for the Valiants before MSMC responded.
Defense Tightens the Screws MSMC's defense, led by
Kenny Leen with 26 saves, stepped up and held Manhattanville to only one additional goal for the remainder of the first half and the entire second quarter. Coach
Justin Lorenzo attributed the positive change to his guys: "I'm happy with how my guys responded after the first quarter and continued to fight throughout the game, defense buckled down and gave the offense the chance to get us back but unluckily we couldn't close the first-quarter gap."
Knights Fight Back The Knights' offense found its rhythm with
Larry Frank (3 goals),
Chris Murolo,
Joe Keating, and
Xavier Rodriguez (1 goal each).
Joe Keating also dished out three assists.
Clearing Woes Clearing the ball proved to be another area where MSMC struggled, as they were only successful on 21 of 38 clears for the game.
Next Up The Knights will celebrate Senior Day this Sunday, April 14th at 1 PM as they host the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kaplan Field.
