Men's Lacrosse Celebrates Seniors, Battles in Hard Fought Loss Against USMMA

NEWBURGH, NY  – The Mount Saint Mary College Knights men's lacrosse team honored their seniors with a heartfelt Senior Day celebration following a fierce battle on the field against the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners. Despite a valiant effort, the Knights ultimately fell 14-3 to the visiting team. The post-game ceremony recognized the contributions of graduating seniors Joseph Angelillo, Xavier Rodriguez, Kaleb Pullis, Bobby DeSantis, Carmine Comintini, Anthony Dziedzic, Jager Berkley, and Michael Zeszutek.

Mariners' Offense Proves Victorious

The game showcased two teams known for their defensive prowess, but the Mariners' offensive firepower ultimately carried the day. The Knights fought back with offensive efforts from Larry Frank, Joe Keating, and Devin Lanzer, who each notched a goal for the home team. Sophomore Henry Micyk also contributed with an assist for the Knights' effort.

Knights' Defense and Goaltending

The Mount Saint Mary defense put up a strong fight, highlighted by senior goaltender Kenny Leen's outstanding performance. Leen turned away an impressive 21 shots from the Mariners' attack. Sophomore defender Carter Laughman had 4 caused turnovers and 4 ground balls, leading the efforts of the back line. The Knights' defense relentlessly challenged the Mariners throughout the game but ultimately couldn't contain their potent offense.

Coach's Comments

Reflecting on the game, Mount Saint Mary College Head Coach Justin Lorenzo emphasized the unwavering spirit of his team: "It was a hard-fought battle till the end. The seniors left it all on the field for senior day and the younger guys did their part, we're hungry to get a win at home on Wednesday."

Looking Ahead

The Knights won't have long to dwell on the loss as they prepare for a quick turnaround. The Mount will look to secure a victory on their home turf when they host St. Joseph's University- Long Island this Wednesday, April 17th. The game is set to start at 4 PM at Kaplan Field.
