Knights Battle in Skyline Doubleheader Against Saint Joseph's-Brooklyn

Newburgh, NY- Today was a special day for Mount Saint Mary College baseball as they celebrated their graduating seniors. Nick Torres, Anthony Laietta, Jonathan Eagle, Adam Leone, and Mike Scotto were honored for their commitment and contributions to the program. These seniors all had a chance to take the field in the Knights' Skyline Conference doubleheader against Saint Joseph's-Brooklyn, making the day even more memorable.

Game 1: Knights Take Opener

The Mount Saint Mary College Knights baseball team kicked off their Skyline Conference doubleheader with a 3-2 win over the Saint Joseph's-Brooklyn Bears. Pitcher Michael Di Tullio delivered a solid performance, holding the Bears to just two runs over seven innings.

The Knights offense got started in the bottom of the first inning. Leadoff hitter Frank Signorelli tripled to right center, scoring on a wild pitch. Adam Leone and Luke Barone each walked, with Barone stealing second base. Tyler Crocitto laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners.

The Knights' early momentum stalled until the fifth inning. They added two runs, sparked by walks to Leone and Barone and a key single by Tyler Van De Bogart.

Game 2: Knights Rally Back To Go Extra Innings

The second game proved a marathon affair, stretching to eleven innings in a tightly contested battle. It was a back-and-forth game that saw the Knights and Bears exchange leads. Saint Joseph's-Brooklyn eventually prevailed 9-8.
The Knights' bats were hot early, led by Signorelli, Leone, and Barone.  Noah Anderson and Tyler Van De Bogart helped fuel the offense adding hits, and stolen bases for the team.  Van De Bogart added 2 RBi's as well.
However, the Bears refused to go down without a fight, chipping away at the Knights' lead and ultimately pulling ahead in extra innings.

Knights Notes
  • Frank Signorelli had an impressive doubleheader, going 2 for 8 with a triple and an RBI. He walked and stole a base in game one and had 1 run and 1 RBI in game two.

  • Adam Leone went 3 for 8 on the day with one RBIs a stolen base and a double.

Coach Purcell's Comments "We played well today in game one. DiTullio did a nice job on the mound, and we had some timely hitting. Game two was a tough loss, but there were a lot of positives to take away, and we're looking forward to getting back out there against Union."

Up Next The Knights will be back in action at home against Union College on Tuesday, April 30th, at 4 pm.
