RIVERDALE, NY– The Mount Saint Mary College Knights men's lacrosse team displayed their determination and resilience on Tuesday afternoon, overcoming a sluggish start to secure a hard-fought 9-4 Skyline Conference victory over the University of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins.
The Knights found themselves trailing 2-0 after a frustrating opening half where offensive chances were scarce, and shots repeatedly went wide or clanged off the post. However, the Mount refused to be deterred. Coach
Justin Lorenzo's halftime adjustments sparked the team, and the Knights emerged from the break with newfound intensity.
Defenseman
Bobby DeSantis ignited the comeback with his relentless ground ball battles and ability to turn defense into offense. His hustle set the tone, and the Knights' offense finally came alive in the third quarter.
Joe Keating spearheaded the attack with a flurry of goals, netting four for the game and adding a vital assist.
Xavier Rodriguez also impressed, burying two goals while setting up another teammate for a score.
The Knights' defense, anchored by goalie
Kenny Leen's 18 saves, clamped down on the Dolphins and frustrated their attack. The Mount's transition game excelled, allowing them to gain momentum and seize control of the contest.
"That was a statement win, a testament to our guys' heart," said Coach Lorenzo. "We weren't clicking early, but they never wavered from the game plan. That third-quarter surge showed what we're capable of when we play together."
Key Moments:
- The Knights' offensive struggles in the first half, including several shots hitting the pipe.
