Doubleheader Split For The Knights

Purchase, NY - The Mount Saint Mary College Knights baseball team went the distance today but fell in a tough second game against the Manhattanville Valiants in a Skyline Conference doubleheader. Despite a strong pitching performance and a late-inning rally in the first game, MSMC ended up with a 1-1 split.

Game One: Mount Saint Mary College Wins in a Thriller

The Knights took an early 2-0 lead in Game One with RBI singles from outfielder Aidan Marshall and first baseman Tyler Van De Bogart. The Valiants fought back with a run of their own, but MSMC held a 4-2 advantage by the fourth inning.

The game was on the line in the seventh inning when the Valiants scored a run to threaten the Knights' lead. Starting pitcher Michael Di Tullio and relief pitcher Michael Pisseri were outstanding on the mound, holding the Valiants to just four runs through seven innings. Pisseri earned the save with his final 1.2 innings.

Game Two: A Tight Match Goes to Manhattanville

The Knights struggled from the plate in the second game, failing to put runs on the board. Valiant pitcher Rocco Osso contained the Mount through the sixth inning, while the Knights' pitching staff limited Manhattanville to just four runs.

MSMC couldn't match their earlier hitting efforts, and the Valiants came away with an 8-0 win in game two.

Coach Purcell's Comments

After the doubleheader, Head Coach Trevor Purcell praised his team's effort throughout both games. "We were hungry for 2 wins today but ended up with a tough split. We got some great pitching from Di Tullio, Pisseri, and Horan (Liam Horan) who all had awesome outings for us today," said Purcell. "Our hitting came alive in game one, but unfortunately, the bats went cold in game two. This team is tough and will continue to play hard for each other. We will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday."

Key Performances

Aidan Marshall had a combined 2-for-7 with a run, walk, and RBI.
Michael Di Tullio picked up the win in Game One, going 5.1 strong innings with just three runs surrendered.
Tyler Van De Bogart went 2-for-3 with a homerun and three RBIs in Game One.
Up Next

The Knights are back on the road for a single game against the Marywood University Pacers in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, April 23th, at 3:30 pm.
