YAPHANK, NY – The Mount Saint Mary College baseball team fought hard in both games of their doubleheader against the Old Westbury Panthers on Friday afternoon, but were unable to earn a victory. The Knights faced tough competition with the Panthers putting up strong offensive performances.
Game 1 Tough Loss
In the opener, Old Westbury jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. They added more runs throughout the game, while the Knights' offense was held in check. Though they managed a late rally, MSMC couldn't fully close the gap.

Luke Barone led the Knights with three hits and two RBIs

Michael Pisseri recorded three strikeouts, but took the loss.
Game 2 Goes Down to the Wire
The second game was a back-and-forth battle. The Knights scored first, but Old Westbury responded with a big sixth inning to take the lead. Trailing in the eighth inning, MSMC rallied for three runs to give themselves a chance. Unfortunately, the Panthers scored five runs in both the seventh and eighth inning to ultimately secure the win.
Key Individual Performances (Game 2)
Christopher Calvario excelled at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Aidan Marshall hit a three-run homer in the eighth and had three total RBIs.
Ryan Lutinski had two RBIs for the Knights.
Coach Purcell's Comments: "I'm proud of the fight our team showed today, especially in game two. We battled back, but unfortunately fell just short. We'll continue to work hard and prepare for our next match-up."
