Mount Saint Mary College Knights Battle in High-Scoring Loss to Albertus Magnus

HAMDEN, Conn. – In a wild, see-saw slugfest between the Mount Saint Mary College Knights and Albertus Magnus Falcons, the Knights ultimately came up short, dropping a close 14-11 decision on Wednesday afternoon.

Offensive Explosion

Both teams came to play with the bats, posting big numbers throughout the game. The Mount jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning and another in the second. However, Albertus Magnus fired back in the bottom of the first, plating six runs of their own. Neither side would hold a lead for long as the offensive fireworks continued.

The Knights put up an impressive seven-run third inning, reclaiming the lead at 10-6.  The Falcons wouldn't surrender, answering with six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. They took a 12-11 lead, which would prove to be the difference in the game. Both bullpens settled the game down until the Falcons added two insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Despite the loss, several Mount Saint Mary players had standout performances at the plate:

Chris Calvario: Went 2-for-5 with two singles, two RBIs, two runs scored

Coach's Comments

After the game, MSMC Head Coach Trevor Purcell commented, "We came out swinging early and put some early runs on the board. We played solid defense throughout the entire game. We came up short in the slugfest of a game. I saw a lot of positive things that we can build on going into a big weekend for us."

What's Next

The Knights will look to rebound from this tough loss when they return to action on Saturday, April 13th. They host Farmingdale State College at 12:00 pm for a pivotal home contest.
