Newburgh, NY- The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team (0-5) fell to Gwynedd Mercy University (2-6) in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon by a score of 15-4. Head Coach
Justin Lorenzo's Knights battled hard throughout the contest, but a strong second quarter by the Griffins proved to be the difference.
The Mount jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before Gwynedd Mercy responded with two unanswered goals to end the first quarter (3-2). Goal scorers for the Mount were
Larry Frank,
Tim Doyle, and
Joe Keating. Unfortunately, The Griffins, answered strong in the second quarter and didn't the Mount back in the game.
The Griffins outscored the Knights 5-1 in the second quarter to take control of the game. 19 shots were taken in the quarter, 14 of which were at MSMC goalie
Kenny Leen. The Knights managed just one goal in the second quarter, scored by
Joe Keating. Going into half time, the game was still manageable for the home team with the Knights only down by three goals. Unfortunately, the game quickly got out of hand in the second half, when the Griffins scored 8 unanswered goals.
Although the result wasn't what they were hoping for, there were some positive takeaways for the Mount. Goalkeeper
Kenny Leen made 16 saves in net, while attacker
Joe Keating led the team with two goals. Midfielder
Larry Frank and attacker
Tim Doyle each added a goal as well.
Looking Ahead
The Knights will look to get back on track when they travel to FDU-Florham on March 20th for a 7 PM game.
