Oneonta, NY- The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team (0-4, 0-0 Skyline) fell to Hartwick College (2-2, 0-0 Empire 8) by a score of 15-2 today in a non-conference matchup.
While the scoreboard may not reflect it, the Knights showed plenty of fight throughout the game. They were finally able to play a game in dry conditions after a string of rain-soaked contests, and a bright spot was the performance of several newcomers. Sophomore
Tristen Vazquez got his first collegiate start on defense, while
Vincent Sullivan and
Richard Algarin saw their first minutes of college action.
Despite the inexperience of some players, Mount Saint Mary College hung tough in the first half, trailing just 5-2 at the break. However, injuries and a lack of depth began to wear on the Knights in the second half, allowing Hartwick to pull away.
Sophomore goalie
Kenny Leen was a bright spot for the Mount, making a season-high 21 saves on 62 shots. Offensively,
Joe Keating led the way with two goals, while
Carter Laughman added an assist.
Head Coach
Justin Lorenzo acknowledged the challenges his team faced but praised their effort. "We played with heart till the end of the game and didn't give up," he said. "Coming out of the first half we felt good but injuries and lack of depth hurt us in the end."
Here's a closer look at some of the Knights' individual performances:
Kenny Leen (GK): 21 saves on 62 shots
Joe Keating (M): 2 goals
Carter Laughman (D): 1 assist
The Knights will look to bounce back next Saturday, March 16th, when they host Gwynedd Mercy University at 4:00 pm.
