Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary was looking for its first win as they hosted SUNY Cobleskill this evening. Senior forward
Connor Cyran had a career night as he had career-highs in rebounds, assists, and three-pointers. Funny enough, Cyran's career-high in points came last season when he scored 32 against Cobleskill, and his season-high his freshman year was also against Cobleskill when he scored 19. The Knights opened up attacking the offensive glass as two offensive boards for
Josiah Jones led to free throws. The team had 16 total offensive rebounds throughout the game. The Fighting Tigers went up by as much as eight in the first half, but a
Rob Geremino three cut down their deficit. Off the bench,
AJ Piedra came in and made an impact with his energy, converting an and-one layup and the free throw to make the score 25-23 Cobleskill. The Knights closed out the half well, leading by four with just over a minute to play.
At the beginning of the second half, both teams hovered around a one-score lead. It wasn't until around the halfway mark that the Knights hit their stride. A
Matthew Walsh steal gave
Brenden Graham a fastbreak layup as the Mount began their run.
Connor Cyran, who has been hot from beyond the arc to start the season, could not miss in the second half, as he extended the Mount Saint Mary lead to 11 with just over five minutes to go. The Fighting Tigers continued to hang around, but the score was closer than the game dictated. The Knights held a solid lead for the remainder of the game until Cobleskill hit a couple of threes including one with two seconds left. Mount Saint Mary would come out on top 73-69 over SUNY Cobleskill.
