The Knights came out strong from the opening whistle. Merchant Marine put some shots on goal right away in the first half but graduate goalkeeper
Christina Kakavas made some big saves to keep the score at zero. Mount Saint Mary's back line was dominant as usual, making some big plays with Merchant Marines' constant pressure. The Knights were unable to get much offense going in the first half, putting only two shots on goal. Sophomore
Grace Morra had potentially the best opportunity for the Knights, just missing to the far side of the goal on a breakaway.
Kaelyn Greene and
Reilley Tondini, who have been having stellar rookie seasons so far this year, continued that by helping the Knights finish the first half tied 0-0 with Merchant Marine.
The Knights got caught with a mismatch at the beginning of the second half. In the 51st minute of the match, Merchant Marine scored what would become the only goal of the game off a corner to take a 1-0 lead. Mount Saint Mary was able to get more shots on goal in the second half but they weren't able to convert any of these opportunities. The Knights focus on what's next as they prepare to take on Farmingdale State at 5 pm on Tuesday night.
