Newburgh, NY- The Knights faced off tonight against the preseason top-ranked Manhattanville Valiants. This was the first conference game of the season for the Mount which pitted them against last year's conference winner, so the team knew they were in for a battle.
MSMC came out of the gates strong each set, holding their own against the visiting team, however the Manhattanville team never relented their attack. Each set was a close one, and long rallies were exchanged back and forth.
Jonaiya Williams was once again back on top as the team kills leader (8),
Aubriana Boyce lead in assists (13), and
Vanessa Mleczko was a defensive machine leading the team with 10 digs.
Coach Strano said after the game, "We are in it each and every set, we are right up to the edge, and just missing that little bit to get us over the top. But I can see it coming, the cohesion and the communication is developing more and more each game. This was only our first game of the conference and we have to move on from tonight and set our sights on the next games this weekend. I know this team has what it takes, once they click, they are going to be in control of the game."
The Knights will be traveling to Long Island this weekend for a dual match against conference opponent St. Joseph's Long Island and FDU- Floram.
