Newburgh, NY- Tonight's conference match up between the Mount Saint Mary College's Men's Soccer team and the SUNY Maritime College Privateers was a battle. The cool crisp fall air of the evening created a perfect setting for this show down.
The Mount was on the offensive the entire game. Constant pressure was put on the Privateers back line the whole match by the Knights. Strikers
Peter Ramirez (New Windsor, N.Y., Newburgh Free Academy),
Elijah Duprey (Vergennes, VT, Vergennes),
J.C. Gutierrez (Long Branch, N.J., Shore Regional) and
Jake Kwong (Staten Island, N.Y., Monsignor Farrell) were able to find themselves able to break through the back line several times throughout the match, and making the opposing keeper earn his saves. The three knights were able to get 7 shots over the course of 90 minutes.
Sam Bevevino (Albany, N.Y., Shaker),
Jack Hoffman (Wingdale, N.Y., Arlington),
Odirlei Thomaz (Newburgh, N.Y., Newburgh Free Academy) and
Liam Hughes (Rockaway Beach, N.Y., St. Edmunds Prep) played a phenomenal game tonight in the defense; making
Caesar Martinez's (Lake Katrine, N.Y., Kingston) job an easy one, only allowing 1 shot on goal. Each defender was vital to the start of the Mount's counter attack, as they provided incredible quickness in the transitions through the middle third of the field.
While the game ended in a draw, this was a positive step in the team's development for the reminder of the season. They have been getting stronger each match and this Saturday the Knights will look to continue their 8 year win streak against Sarah Lawrence College at Home at 1pm.
