Brooklyn, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team earned just its third Skyline Conference sweep of the season Saturday afternoon following 5-1 and 5-3 victories on the road at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.
Matthew Borriello (Montgomery, N.Y.) worked a complete game in the opener and the Mount offense pounded out 22 hits on the day.
Saturday's doubleheader victory moves Mount Saint Mary to 13-25 overall on the season and 8-10 in conference play, while St. Joseph's falls to 11-25 overall and 6-14 in league action.
Game 1: Mount Saint Mary 5 – St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 1
How It Happened
- Mount Saint Mary broke open a scoreless game in the third with a trio of tallies to move in front 3-0.
- Robert Brust (Shirley, N.Y.) doubled to lead off the inning and came home a batter later when Liam Merlin (Reading, Mass.) doubled to left field.
- Jack Goodwin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) laced the Mount's third straight double to begin the inning to chase Merlin home and give the Mount a 2-0 advantage.
- Goodwin later scored on a single through the middle from Devin Tait (Staten Island, N.Y.) that closed out the scoring in the frame.
- The Knights tacked on a run in the fourth inning and moved its advantage to 4-0 when Adam Leone (Wallingford, Conn.) came home on a two-out triple from Goodwin.
- After the Bears got their only run of the game in the home half of the fifth, the Knights got an insurance run in the seventh.
- Merlin and Goodwin put two runners on to start the inning after a single and hit by pitch and Tait later delivered Merlin with a sacrifice fly.
For The Knights
- Half of the Mount's 10 hits in the opener went for extra bases.
- Goodwin continued his hot streak at the plate 2-for-3 with a double, triple, run and two RBI.
- Aidan Marshall (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with a double.
- Leone finished game one 2-for-3 with a run scored.
- Merlin went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.
- Brust doubled and scored a run.
- Tait finished with a hit and drove in two runs.
- Borriello earned his third win of the season after working his third complete game of the year. He allowed a single run on five hits, striking out seven against just one walk.
Game 2: Mount Saint Mary 5 – St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 3
How It Happened
- Game two went scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when the Mount put three runs on the board.
- Goodwin chased home Brust, who singled to start the inning, with the game's first run.
- Anthony Franco (Franklin Square, N.Y.) delivered Frank Signorelli (Staten Island, N.Y.), who was hit with a pitch, to give the Mount a 2-0 lead.
- Goodwin later came home with the inning's final run on a sacrifice fly from Marshall.
- The Bears climbed to within 3-2 in the home half of the fifth, before the Knights moved their lead back to 4-2 in the sixth.
- Merlin doubled to lead off the sixth for the Mount and came around on a one-out double from Cullen Roper (Stratford, Conn.).
- The Bears again moved to within a run with a single tally in the seventh, but the Knights edged back in front by the final 5-3 decision with a single run in the eighth.
- Franco provided the Mount's final run with a two-out single that pushed home Roper.
- The Bears would get the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Michael Di Tullio (Montgomery, N.Y.) got a fly out to end the threat.

- The Knights recorded three more doubles in game two on their way to outhitting the Bears 12-11.
- Goodwin picked up two more hits, swiped three bags walked, scored a run and drove in a run.
- Franco finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and two stolen bases.
- Coleman Barnes (New Hampton, N.Y.) finished with two hits, including a double.
- Signorelli posted a 3-for-3 effort with a run scored.
- Merlin, Brust and Roper all posted a hit and scored a run.
- Liam Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) picked up his first win of the season with 7.0 strong inning. He allowed three runs on 10 hits while striking out four.
- Di Tullio picked up his second save of the season with 2.0 scoreless innings that featured four punchouts.
