Knights Take Two From Yeshiva

Knights score season-high 22 runs in game two

Purchase, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team got back into the win column on Monday, sweeping a Skyline Conference doubleheader from Yeshiva by scores of 13-7 and 22-1. The Knights combined for 31 hits over the two contests and posted a season-high run total in game two, surpassing the previous mark of 18 that came in a non-conference win over John Jay on April 20.
 
Monday's sweep improves Mount Saint Mary to 11-24 overall on the season and to 6-10 in Skyline Conference play, while Yeshiva slides to 0-27 overall and 0-18 against league rivals.
 
Game 1: Mount Saint Mary 13 – Yeshiva 7
How It Happened
  • After being held off the board in their first at-bat, the Knights erupted for seven runs in the top of the second inning.
  • Robert Brust (Shirley, N.Y.) doubled to lead off the inning and later scored the game's first run on a run scoring single from Liam Merlin (Reading, Mass.).
  • After scoring three straight runs off of Yeshiva miscues, the Knights received an RBI double from Anthony Franco (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and a run scoring single from Aidan Marshall (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.).
  • The Knights tacked on a run in the third on an BRI double from Merlin and after the Maccabees got on the board in the home half of the inning, plated four more runs in the fourth to open a 12-1 advantage.
  • Marshall drove in a run in the double and after a sacrifice fly from Michael DiGiovanni (Shirley, N.Y.) made the score 10-1, Cullen Roper (Stratford, Conn.) pushed across the final two runs of the inning with a two-out triple.
  • The Knights added their final run of the game in the fifth inning when Adam Leone (Wallingford, Conn.) shot a two-out single through the middle to chase home Brandon Nolasco (Chester, N.Y.).
  • Yeshiva mounted a final charge in the home seventh, plating six runs on seven hits.
  • Sammy Greenberg highlighted the big inning for the Macs with a two-run single.
 
For The Knights
  • Eight different Knights finished the game with a hit and six players posted multiple hits in the opener.
  • Merlin wrapped up game one 3-for-4 with a double, stolen base, two runs scored and two RBI.
  • Roper closed the opener 3-for-4 with a triple, run scored and two RBI.
  • Franco went 2-for-5 with a double, run, stolen base and RBI.
  • Nolasco finished 2-for-5 with three runs scored.
  • Marshall continued his solid rookie season with two hits, including a double, to go along with a run and two RBI.
  • Brust went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
  • Lukas Naley (Montrose, N.Y.) earned his first career win for the Mount, working 6.1 inning and striking out four.
  • Devin Lanzer (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) got the final two outs for the Mount.
 
Game 2: Mount Saint Mary 22 – Yeshiva 1 (F/7)
How It Happened
  • The Knights broke game two open early with five runs in the first inning. The Knights went on to score in six of their seven at-bats, including nine runs in the top of the third.
  • Coleman Barnes (New Hampton, N.Y.) highlighted the big first with a run scoring double with Marshall adding a two-run single in a three-run second frame.
  • The Knights needed just four hits in the third to get nine runs, taking advantage of a pair of errors and two walks.
  • Jack Goodwin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) plated two runs with a double in the frame with Marshall adding another run scoring base hit.
  • The Knights added two more runs in the fourth, highlighted by an RBI single from Goodwin, and got another run in the fifth thanks to an RBI single from Noah Anderson (Watervliet, N.Y.).
  • The final two runs of the game came home in the sixth when Devin Tait (Staten Island, N.Y.) doubled home Goodwin and Daniel Mack (Ramsey, N.J.) delivered Justin Stella (Lords Valley, Pa.) with a two-out single.
 
For The Knights
  • The Mount pounded out 15 hits in game two, including five for extra bases.
  • Tait finished game two 4-for-6 with a double, four runs scored and four RBI.
  • Goodwin posted a 3-for-3 effort with two walks, a double, triple, five runs scored and three driven in to go along with four stolen bases.
  • Marshall picked up two more hits, scored twice and drove in three runs.
  • Barned doubled twice, scored three times and picked up a pair of RBI.
  • Anderson finished with two hits, walked three times, scored once and drove in a run.
  • Mack picked up two safeties scored twice and drove in two runs.
  • Stella drew two walks and scored three times.
  • Christopher Snyder (Islip, N.Y.) earned the win after allowing an unearned run in 4.0 innings, striking out five.
  • Alex Nalewajk (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Shawn Sawyer (Walden, N.Y.) combined for three scoreless innings of relief.
 
What's Next
  • Mount Saint Mary heads to Cortland on Tuesday for a non-conference contest scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
