Baseball Topped By Vassar

Signorelli posts two hits

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Playing its sixth game in the last four days, the Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team suffered an 11-1 road non-conference loss at Vassar Wednesday afternoon. Frank Signorelli (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished the game with two hits for the Mount.
 
With Wednesday's loss, Mount Saint Mary falls to 6-16 overall on the season, while Vassar improves its overall standing to 14-7.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar jumped out to a 3-0 lead after an inning, recording five hits in its first turn at bat.
  • Adam Talwalkar doubled home Jack Silvera to open the scoring ahead of a two-run single from Ezra Caspi.
  • Mount Saint Mary got a run back in the top of the second after Coleman Barnes (New Hampton, N.Y.) and Liam Merlin (Reading, Mass.) started the inning with a walk and base hit, respectively.
  • After a fly out advanced both runners, Joseph Laudati (Walden, N.Y.) drove in Barnes with an infield single.
  • Vassar broke the game open in the home half of the second, putting five more runs on the board.
  • Jaden Millstein singled home a run and Talwalkar drove in his second run of the game with a sacrifice fly. Reid Lapekas drove in the final two runs of the inning with a two-run double.
  • The Brewers put their final three runs on the board in the seventh inning, starting with a home run from Talwalkar.
  • Alex Warren drove in a run with a single before Daniel Laderman chased home the final run with a groundout.
 
For The Knights
  • Signorelli finished 2-for-4 out of the leadoff spot and was the only Knight with multiple hits.
  • Barnes finished with a hit, walk and the team's only run.
  • Merlin, Anthony Laietta (North Massapequa, N.Y.), Daniel Mack (Ramsey, N.J.) and Laudati all singled with Laudati driving in the team's lone run.
  • Ryan Lockhart (Monroe Township, N.J.) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on six hits in 1.1 innings of work.
  • Christopher Snyder (Islip, N.Y.) worked 3.1 innings of scoreless relief.
  • Michael Di Tullio (Montgomery, N.Y.) added a scoreless inning of work.
 
For The Brewers
  • Talwalkar finished a big day 2-for-3 with a double, home run, three runs and three RBI.
  • Lapekas went 3-for-4 with two runs and two driven in.
  • Millsten recorded two hits, including a double, scoring once and driving one run in.
  • Michael Came earned the win on the mound, working 5.0 innings and allowing one run on three hits.
 
What's Next
  • Mount Saint Mary travels to Bridgewater State on April 11.
  • Vassar opens a three-game conference series at Skidmore on Friday.
