Baseball Stumbles At Marywood

Marshall drives in three runs

Scranton, Pa. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team played the final game of an eight-game road trip Tuesday afternoon, falling at Scranton by a score of 5-4. Aidan Marshall (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) finished the day with three RBI for the Knights.
 
Tuesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 7-21 overall on the season, while Marywood stops a five-game skid and improves to 13-17.
 
How It Happened
  • Marywood opened a three-run lead in the early going, plating a run in the first and two more in the second.
  • Vinny D'Auria and Christian Michak executed a double steal in the first with Michak swiping home to open the scoring in the game.
  • In the second, Michak doubled home a run with one out in the inning ahead of a run scoring single from Adam Ginsberg that chased home Michak.
  • Trailing by three runs, Mount Saint Mary got on the board in the sixth when it took advantage of a hit, an error and a pair of walks.
  • Marshall shot a single up the middle with one out in the inning that pushed home Alex Nalewajik (Staten Island, N.Y.) who walked to lead off the inning.
  • Down 3-1 in the seventh, the Mount plated three runs on three hits to pull in front 4-3.
  • Justin Stella (Lords Valley, Pa.) walked and stole second with one out and later came home on a Nalewajik groundout.
  • Following a two-out walk to Adam Leone (Wallingford, Conn.), Marshall rifled a double to left center field to deliver Frank Signorelli (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Leone to give the Knights a 4-3 lead.
  • Mount Saint Mary held the Pacers off the board in the home seventh, but Marywood plated the deciding runs in the bottom of the eighth.
  • D'Auria singled home Ginsberg with one out in the inning to tie the score and Chris Thomas drew a based loaded two-out walk to deliver the deciding run.
  • Mount Saint Mary put the tying run in scoring position in the ninth, but could not push it across.

  • Marshall finished the day 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI.
  • Signorelli recorded a hit, scored a run and stole a base.
  • Nalewajik had a hit and scored a run.
  • Leon walked and scored a run.
  • Stella walked twice, stole a base and scored a run.
  • Christopher Snyder (Islip, N.Y.) made the start and allowed three runs in 2.0 innings.
  • John Morehead (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and Devin Lanzer (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) each worked 2.0 innings of scoreless relief.
  • Stephen Vernaglia (Mahwah, N.J.) allowed two runs, one earned, in 2.0 innings. He struck out two and walked three.
 
What's Next
  • The Knights return home for the first time since April 3 on Thursday when they play host to John Jay.
