Knights Power Past John Jay, 18-3

Barnes, Morgan homer in win

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team pounded out 17 hits, including six for extra bases, on it way to a season-high run total in an 18-3 home non-conference win over John Jay Thursday afternoon. 11 different Knights recorded a hit in the game, including three apiece from Jack Goodwin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Devin Tait (Staten Island, N.Y.).
 
Thursday's win improves Mount Saint Mary to 8-21 overall on the season while the Bloodhounds drop to 2-31 overall.
 
How It Happened
  • The Knights wasted little time jumping on top in the game, plating four runs in the home half of the first inning.
  • The first five hitters for the Knights reached safely in the first with Tait opening the scoring with an RBI single.
  • Brandon Nolasco (Chester, N.Y.) added a run scoring walk for the Mount in the opening frame.
  • After the Bloodhounds got two runs in the top of the third, the Mount tacked on four more tallies in the bottom of the inning to jump in front 8-2.
  • Coleman Barnes (New Hampton, N.Y.) led off the inning with a home run with Goodwin tripling home two runs. Anthony Franco (Franklin Square, N.Y.) delivered Goodwin with a sacrifice fly to close out the scoring in the inning.
  • After being held off the board in the fourth, the Knights broke the game wide open with six scores in the home half of the fifth.
  • Tait started the scoring in the fifth with his second run scoring single of the game with Nolasco following with a two-run base hit that made the score 11-2.
  • Liam Merlin (Reading, Mass.) drove in a run with a groundout and Frank Signorelli (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished off the scoring in the frame with a one-out RBI single to left.
  • Mount Saint Mary was held off the board in the sixth and seventh innings before putting their final four runs on the board in the eighth.
  • Kaleb Morgan (Red Hook, N.Y.) blasted a one-out, three-run home run to highlight the inning, with Joseph Laudati (Walden, N.Y.) driving in the Mount's final run with a triple.

  • Mount Saint Mary featured 11 different players with at least one hit and four players with multiple hits in the contest.
  • Goodwin continued his strong season with a 3-for-6 effort that included a triple, three runs scored and a pair of RBI.
  • Tait finished 3-for-6 with two runs scored and two RBI.
  • Barnes' homer highlighted a 2-for-4 effort with two runs and an RBI.
  • Adam Leone (Wallingford, Conn.) wrapped up the win 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
  • Franco drew two walks, scored twice and drove in a run.
  • Aidan Marshall (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) walked twice, picked up a hit and scored twice.
  • Merlin and Michael Paolo (Milton, N.Y.) each finished with a double and a run scored.
  • Morgan connected on his first career home run and drove in three.
  • Laudati finished 1-for-2 with a triple and an RBI.
  • Ryan Lockhart (Monroe Township, N.J.) made the start and earned the win with 2.0 scoreless innings.
  • Lukas Naley (Montrose, N.Y.) worked 2.0 scoreless innings in relief, striking out four.

  • Mount Saint Mary returns to Skyline Conference play on Saturday when it plays host to Old Westbury.
