Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team begins a six-game week and closes an eight-game road trip Tuesday afternoon at Marywood. Mount Saint Mary returns home for the first time since April 3 on Thursday against John Jay before hosting league rivals Old Westbury and Manhattanville over the weekend.
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary stopped a five-game skid with a 12-6 game two victory at Farmingdale State Sunday and begins play on Tuesday with a 7-20 overall record.
On the strength of a 4-for-4 effort in game two against the Rams on Sunday,
Jack Goodwin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) is hitting a team-high .314 for the Knights with a team best 17 runs scored and 12 RBI. Goodwin clubbed his first home run of the season on Saturday at Maritime and adds five doubles and a triple to go along with seven stolen bases.
Devin Tait (Staten Island, N.Y.) is hitting .310 for the Knights with eight runs and 11 RBI with
Anthony Franco (Franklin Square, N.Y.) hitting .306. Franco, who hit two home runs at Maritime on Saturday, leads the Mount with 20 RBI and six doubles and has seen 11 of his 26 hits go for extra bases on the season.
Robert Brust (Shirley, N.Y.) ranks second on the team with 13 RBI and adds 13 runs scored, while freshman
Aidan Marshall (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) has driven in 11 runs for the Knights and is hitting .269 in 18 games played.
Brian Gregory (Florida, N.Y.) has won three games for the Knights on the mound and is working to a team best 3.26 earned run average. Gregory has pitched a team-high 47.0 innings and fanned 19 hitters against just seven walks.
A Look At Marywood: Marywood looks to stop a five-game losing streak on Tuesday and enters the day with a 12-17 overall record.
The Pacers feature a trio of players hitting better than .300 on the season, led by a .389 mark from Max Slusser who paces the team with 37 hits, including six doubles and three home runs, to go along with 21 runs scored and a team-high 29 RBI.
Vinny D'Auria checks in with a .367 batting average with 22 runs scored, six doubles, three triples and 25 RBI. Christian Michak is batting .343 and leads the team with 33 runs scored and is 25-for-28 in stolen base attempts. Michak has driven in 19 runs and is tied for the team lead in doubles with Slusser and A'Auria with six.
Max Ryan and Nick Notari have each won two games on the mound with Ryan posting a 3.24 earned run average and 30 strikeouts in 33.1 innings. Notari has worked a team-high 41.0 innings for Marywood and holds a 5.27 ERA and finished off two complete games. A.J. Jordan is 3-0 on the season over eight relief appearances.
Recent History: The Knights and Pacers have met three times pervious to Tuesday since 2018 with the Mount holding a 2-1 record. The Mount posted 5-0 and 4-3 wins in a doubleheader sweep of Marywood on February 23, 2019 in the last meeting between the two.
Previewing John Jay: The Bloodhounds head to St. Joseph's-L.I. on Tuesday looking to stop an 18-game losing streak and with a 2-29 overall record. John Jay has not won a game since beating Yeshiva 34-0 on March 15.
Michael Manzoeillo is hitting .339 for John Jay over 109 at-bats and leads the team with 20 runs scored to go along with 17 RBI. John Spallin and Anthony Agosta have each driven in a team-high 18 runs with Spallin hitting .333 with 12 doubles covering 111 at-bats.
Marc Weeks and Matthew Brennan have each earned a win on the mound with Weeks working a team-high 34.2 innings over 11 starts.
Recent History: The two teams have meet nine times since the start of the 2008 season, but will play for the first time since 2016 when they meet on Thursday. The Knights hold a 5-4 edge in the head-to-head series since 2008, but have dropped the last two decisions. The Mount's last win over John Jay came in a 2-0 triumph in 2014.
Scouting Old Westbury: The Panthers head to NJCU on Tuesday with a 10-12 overall record and a 4-4 mark against league rivals. Old Westbury earned a conference split with Mount Saint Vincent on Sunday, winning the opener 8-4.
Jamal Ritter is hitting .424 to pace the Panthers offense and holds the team lead in hits (36), runs (27), home runs (4) and stolen bases (21). John Dell'Olio is hitting .392 for Old Westbury, scoring 20 runs and swiping 15 bags.
Jaime Barrios checks in with a .345 batting average and nine runs scored, while Oscar Fajardo bats .319 with 16 runs scored and a team-high 19 RBI.
Justin Aviles and Frank Whitenack have each won two games on the mound for the Panthers, with Aviles working to a 4.28 earned run average. Aviles has pitched a team-high 33.2 innings, finished two complete games and fanned 44 while allowing opponents just a .259 batting average.
Recent History: The longtime Skyline Conference rivals have met 31 times since the start of the 2008 season with the Panthers holding a 19-12 advantage in the series. The Mount has won two of the last three decisions in the series, but Old Westbury has been victorious in six of the last eight meetings.
Viewing The Valiants: Manhattanville enters a Wednesday home game against Eastern Connecticut with a 10-16 overall record and begins the weekend with a 4-6 record against conference opponents. The Valiants dropped three of their four Skyline decisions on the weekend, including a sweep at the hands of Maritime on Sunday.
Tyler Mandel is in the midst of a strong season offensively for Manhattanville, hitting .364 with team-highs in hits (28), home runs (4) and RBI (25). Joseph McDonald is hitting .362 with 19 runs scored for Manhattanville.
Brian Bornkamp begins the week hitting .356 with 13 RBI to go along with team standards in doubles with seven and runs scored with 27. Jake Parisi is hitting .302 to date with 26 runs scored and a team-high 15 stolen bases.
Ray White has worked a team-high 31.0 innings for the Manhattanville pitching staff and is 1-3 on the season with a 6.10 earned run average. Chris Antonelli has fanned a team-high 26 batters over 26.2 innings and is 2-2 over seven appearances for the Valiants.
Recent History: The Knights and Valiants have meet 15 times since 2013 with Manhattanville holding an 8-6-1 record over that stretch. The Valiants have won each of the last three decisions with the Knights, including a pair of 2-1 victories on April 10, 2022.
