Men’s Lacrosse Edged At New Paltz

Frank totals four points

New Paltz, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday afternoon following an 11-8 road defeat at New Paltz. Larry Frank (Staten Island, N.Y.) led four Knights with multiple points in the game with four.
 
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 2-1 overall on the season, while New Paltz improves to 1-3 through four contests.
 
How It Happened
  • Maxwell Green Wright (Central Islip, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the game at the 12:24 mark of the first quarter to give the Mount an early 1-0 lead.
  • New Paltz answered with the next three tallies, including two from Aidan Jones, before Green Wright scored a man-up goal with 4:36 left in the period to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Hawks through 15 minutes.
  • New Paltz scored the first two goals of the second frame to open a 5-2 advantage before Frank scored back-to-back goals to bring the Knights to within 5-4 with 10:15 left before halftime.
  • The Hawks responded with an Ethan Scully marker with 64 seconds left in the second frame to carry a 6-4 advantage into the intermission.
  • Coming out of halftime, Frank potted a man-up goal with 9:48 left in the third stanza, but New Paltz spread its lead back out to three goals following tallies from John Reese and Ryan Scully in the final 7:32 of the period.
  • Green Wright scored his third of the game to open the fourth quarter scoring and got the Mount to within 8-6 with 11:46 left in regulation time.
  • New Paltz was able to respond again, scoring three straight times to open an 11-6 advantage with 6:32 left to play.
  • Mike Travers (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Ryan Olmstead (Millbrook, N.Y.) each scored in the final 3:01, but the Knights would not be able to pull closer than the final 11-8 decision.
 
For The Knights
  • Frank led the scoring attack for the Knights with three goals and an assist while also adding a groundball and a caused turnover.
  • Green Wright moved his team lead in goals to nine and points to 12 with a hat trick to go along with two groundballs.
  • Travers finished the contest with a goal and two assists, moving his team lead in helpers to five.
  • Xavier Rodriguez (Hackettstown, N.J.) assisted on two goals and equaled the team-high in groundballs with four.
  • Olmstead scored a goal and collected two groundballs.
  • Sal Gallucci (Manorville, N.Y.) picked up an assist and a groundball.
  • Carmine Comitini (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished with two caused turnovers and a groundball.
  • Tim Doyle (Selden, N.Y.) joined Rodriguez with a team-high four groundballs.
  • Anthony Paggiotta (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) won six face-offs and collected two groundballs.
  • Kenny Leen (Miller Place, N.Y.) suffered the loss in goal, making seven saves to go along with a caused turnover and a groundball.
 
For The Hawks
  • Jones led all players with seven points, scoring four goals and assisting on three others.
  • Reese and R. Scully each scored twice in the win.
  • E. Scully posted a goal and two assists.
  • Zachary Leung caused a pair of turnovers.
  • Matt Brignati went 16-for-22 in face-offs and collected six groundballs.
  • Ryan Steinhart earned the win in goal with eight saves.
