Knights Win Double Overtime Thriller At Marywood

Green Wright caps five-point day with game winner

Scranton, Pa. – Maxwell Green Wright (Central Islip, N.Y.) recorded five points and scored the game winning goal in double overtime as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team opened the season with its second straight victory following an 11-10 triumph at Marywood Saturday afternoon.
 
Saturday's win improves Mount Saint Mary to 2-0 overall on the season, while Marywood drops to 0-3 in the early stages of the 2023 season.
 
How It Happened
  • Mount Saint Mary fell behind early following three straight goals to open the scoring from the Pacers.
  • Trailing 3-0, the Knights evened the score with markers from Xavier Rodriguez (Hackettstown, N.J.), Nick Gurello (Selden, N.Y.) and Larry Frank (Staten Island, N.Y.).
  • The Pacers opened the second stanza with consecutive goals before the Knights closed out the scoring in the first half with a man-up tally from Rodriguez to make the score 5-4 in favor of Marywood after 30 minutes of play.
  • John Scibello got Marywood in front 6-4 with a goal early in the third frame before the Knights ripped off three straight goals to grab their first lead of the day.
  • Mike Travers (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Joe Keating (Pleasantville, N.Y.) scored unassisted goals before Green Wright buried a feed from Travers to give the Knights a 7-6 lead with 5:11 left in the third period.
  • Marywood answered with three of the next four goals to move back in front 9-8 with 3:11 left in the third.
  • Mount Saint Mary evened the score at 9-9 on a Gurello marker and took a 10-9 lead when Green Wright beat the third quarter horn.
  • Marywood scored the only goal of the fourth quarter, a Kiernan Scanlan tally with 4:08 left in regulation time, to knot the score at 10-10.
  • Following a scoreless first overtime period, Green Wright gave the Mount the victory with his fourth goal of the game, an unassisted marker, just over a minute into the second extra frame.
 
For The Knights
  • Green Wright closed the day with four goals, including the game winner, and an assist. Through two games he holds the team lead with six goals and nine points.
  • Rodriguez and Gurello each scored twice with Rodriguez adding three groundballs.
  • Travers finished with a goal and two assists to go along with four groundballs.
  • Frank added a goal and an assist in his first appearance of the season.
  • Joseph Angelillo (Pompton Plains, N.J.) led the team with three caused turnovers and added three groundballs.
  • Anthony Paggiotta (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) won nine face-offs and collected four groundballs.
  • Kenny Lean (Miller Place, N.Y.) finished with a career-high 12 saves in goal and picked up a team-high five groundballs.
 
For The Pacers
  • Scibello scored four times and totaled six points and five groundballs.
  • Dillon Kane posted two goals and an assist.
  • Nick Ericson went 16-for-24 in face-offs, added a goal and an assist and picked up 10 groundballs.
  • Dalton Gerver caused two turnovers and picked up two groundballs.
  • Colin Trainor made 10 saves in the loss in goal.

  • Marywood finished with a 46-35 advantage in shots, including a slim 22-21 edge in shots on goal.
