Men’s Lacrosse Edged By FDU-Florham

Frank totals four points, Leen makes 14 saves

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team returned to action at Kaplan Field on Wednesday and suffered a hard fought 11-10 defeat at the hands of visiting FDU-Florham. Larry Frank (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Ryan Olmstead (Millbrook, N.Y.) each scored three goals and Kenny Leen (Miller Place, N.Y.) turned aside 14 shots in goal.
 
Mount Saint Mary suffered its third straight loss and falls to 2-3 overall on the season, while FDU-Florham stopped a four-game skid and moves to 4-5.
 
How It Happened
  • The two teams went better than five minutes to start the game without a goal before trading tallies just 22 seconds apart.
  • Lucas Berghahn opened the scoring for the Devils at the 9:50 mark before Mike Travers (Staten Island, N.Y.) answered for the Knights with 9:28 to play in the opening period.
  • Joseph Misurelli gave the visitors a 2-1 advantage with just shy of eight minutes left in the first period before Olmstead scored his first of the game with 1:53 to go to knot the score at 2-2.
  • FDU-Florham ripped off three straight goals to open the second period and grab a 5-2 advantage with 8:05 left before halftime.
  • Sal Gallucci (Massapequa, N.Y.) stopped the run with his third goal of the season, off a feed from Maxwell Green Wright (Central Islip, N.Y.), at the 6:06 mark of the second stanza.
  • Ricky Lewis tallied a man-down goal with 4:39 left before the break to give the Devils a 6-3 lead before Frank found of the back of the net at the 1:41 mark to send the two teams into the intermission with the visitors holding a 6-4 advantage.
  • Mount Saint Mary stifled the Devils in the third quarter, outscoring them 3-0.
  • Olmstead scored his second of the game with the man-advantage ahead of a Joe Keating (Pleasantville, N.Y.) marker that knotted the score at 6-6.
  • Mount Saint Mary took its first lead of the game when Xavier Rodriguez (Hackettstown, N.J.) finished off a feed from Travers with the man-advantage to push the Knights in front 7-6 through three periods.
  • FDU-Florham came out in the fourth with the first three tallies to surge back in front 9-7 with 6:47 left to play.
  • Frank finished off his second of the game to get the Knights to within 9-8.
  • FDU-Florham regained a three-goal cushion following markers from Berghahn and Brenden Fabin with the Fabin marker pushing the Devils in front 11-8 with 49 seconds left.
  • The Mount staged a final charge, potting two goals inside the final half minute, but were unable to find the equalizer.
  • Frank scored with 23 seconds to play before Olmstead ripped home his third with nine ticks to go.
  • The Knights controlled the final face-off, but were unable to get the game even.
 
For The Knights
  • Frank led the offensive attack with three goals and four points, adding three groundballs and two caused turnovers.
  • Olmstead tallied three times and collected three groundballs.
  • Travers finished with three points, including two assists, moving his team lead in helpers to seven. Travers added six groundballs for the Knights.
  • Green Wright finished with two assists and five groundballs.
  • Gallucci scored a goal and helped on another.
  • Joseph Angelillo (Pompton Plains, N.J.) caused two turnovers and collected five groundballs.
  • Anthony Paggiotta (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) won 14 face-offs and secured five groundballs.
  • Leen matched his career-high with 14 saves in goal for the Mount.
 
For The Devils
  • Fabin scored three goals and collected seven groundballs.
  • Berghahn, Misurelli and Michael Stewart all scored twice with Misurelli adding a pair of caused turnovers.
  • Zachary Van Zile picked up four groundballs and caused two turnovers.
  • Trevor Arnone won 10 face-offs and picked up seven groundballs.
  • Dalton Povilaitis finished the night with 17 saves.

  • Mount Saint Mary closed the game with a 46-42 advantage in shots, including a slim 27-25 edge in shots on goal.
