Fishkill, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team was in action Wednesday against local foe New Paltz and dropped a non-conference doubleheader to the Hawks 3-2 and 8-4.
Devin Tait (Staten Island, N.Y.) drove in two runs in the opener with
Robert Brust (Shirley, N.Y.) plating two runs in the second game.
Wednesday's results drop Mount Saint Mary to 3-10 overall on the season, while New Paltz improves to 5-6 overall.
Game 1: New Paltz 3 – Mount Saint Mary 2 (F/8)
How It Happened
- The Hawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the opener with a pair of runs in the second inning.
- Michael Boccarossa drove in both early runs with a two runs single with no one out in the second.
- The two-run lead held up until the bottom of the seventh when the Knights evened the score at two runs apiece.
- Cullen Roper (Stratford, Conn.) was hit with a pitch and the Knights promptly put the tying runs in scoring position on a double from Anthony Franco (Franklin Square, N.Y.).
- With one out in the frame, Tait shot a single up the middle the plated both the Mount's runs.
- Tait would advance to second on a wild pitch, but the Knights were unable to push across the winning run.
- In the top of the eighth, the Hawks got back-to-back singles to start the frame and following a sacrifice bunt pushed across the eventual deciding run on a Mount Saint Mary miscue.
- The Knights got two runners on in the bottom of the eighth, but Robert Gregory got a one-out double play ball to thwart the threat and earn the save.

- Tait finished the opener 2-for-4 with two RBI.
- Franco and Brandon Nolasco (Chester, N.Y.) each doubled.
- Franco and Roper each scored one run.
- Liam Merlin (Reading, Mass.) drew two walks in the game.
- Matthew Borriello (Montgomery, N.Y.) made the start and allowed two runs on three hits in 2.0 innings.
- Brian Gregory (Florida, N.Y.) worked 5.0 strong innings of relief, surrendering an unearned run and striking out four to be saddled with the tough luck loss.
Game 2: New Paltz 8 – Mount Saint Mary 4
How It Happened
- Mount Saint Mary got off to a fast start in the night cap, plating a pair of runs in their first at-bat to open a 2-0 lead.
- Nolasco tripled home Jack Goodwin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) with the game's first run and later scored on a wild pitch with two outs to expand the early advantage.
- New Paltz got on the board in the second before the Knights stretched their lead to 4-1 with two more runs in the home half of the fourth.
- After Shane Finch (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) and Merlin singled with two outs, Brust laced a double to left field to plate both runners.
- The three-run advantage held until the sixth when New Paltz plated two runs to slice its deficit to 4-3.
- Garrett Grathwohl and Chris Thorne each drove in runs with base hits in the inning.
- Trailing 4-3 in their final at-bat, the Hawks erupted for five runs in the top of the seventh.
- Ryan Mackle delivered the big blow in the inning with a grand slam.
- Grathwohl tacked on an insurance run later in the inning with a sacrifice fly.
- The Knights were retired in order in the home seventh.

- Nick Torres (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) worked 2.0 scoreless innings of relief.
- Michael DiGiovanni (Shirley, N.Y.) suffered the loss after allowing three earned runs on two hits and two walks in an inning of work.
