Newburgh, NY — Mount Saint Mary College welcomed the College of Saint Rose to the Kaplan Center Pool last night for a sprint pentathlon. Swimmers competed in a 50-yard race of each stroke, along with a 100-yard individual medley and two relays. There were plenty of close races throughout the meet, but the Knights ultimately fell to Saint Rose.
Women's Recap
Kitty Masayda (Watertown, Conn.) had the highest finishes for the Knights last night, placing second in the 50-yard breastroke (34.04) and third in the 50-yard butterfly (29.05).
Grace MacHugh (Newburgh, N.Y.) and Meghan Wurster (Newburgh, NY) also had strong performances, placing in the top eight for multiple events.
MacHugh earned fourth place in the 50-yard breastroke (35.72), seventh in both the 50-yard freestyle (28.51) and the 100-yard individual medley (1:10.86) and eighth in the 50-yard butterfly (31.13).
Wurster finished in sixth for the 50-yard freestyle at a time of 28.35 and eighth in the 100-yard individual medley (1:13.42).
Emily Gursky (Oakville, Conn.), Masayda, MacHugh and Wurster finished the meet with a second-place finish in a 500-yard freestyle relay, with a time of 5:21.93.
Men's Recap
Although they faced dominant competition from Saint Rose, Jackson Lerner (Bayside, N.Y.) and Michael D'Ambrosio (Staten Island, NY) were each able earn top 10 finishes at least twice throughout the meet.
Lerner finished in the top 10 most consistently, placing ninth in the 50-yard breastroke with a 33.86 and the 50-yard freestyle (24.41). He also swam to 10th in the 50-yard butterfly (25.34), the 50-yard backstroke (30.67) and the 100-yard individual medley (1:04.98).
D'Ambrosio swam to 10th place for both the 50-yard breastroke (34.01) and the 50-yard freestyle (25.54).
The Knights will be back in action after the holiday break, when they travel to Western Connecticut State University on Jan. 10.
