Knights Fall on New Year's Eve to Skidmore in Saratoga Springs

Saratoga Springs, NY- The Mount Saint Mary College Knights women's basketball team closed out 2023 with a 57-35 defeat to the Skidmore Thoroughbreds at the Sports Recreation Center in Saratoga Springs. Despite a valiant effort and flashes of brilliance, the Knights were unable to overcome Skidmore's balanced scoring and efficient offense.

For the Knights, Ciarra Quinn (7 points) and Casey Love (10 points) led the scoring effort, while Sara Cashin chipped in 9 points and 5 rebounds. Lauren Petrie (3 points) and Charlotte Twohig (3 points) also showed moments of offensive spark, but overall, the Knights struggled to find a consistent rhythm against Skidmore's tough defense.

Head Coach Marion Dietz acknowledged the challenges faced by her team, but remained optimistic about their future. "We knew Skidmore was a tough opponent coming in," she said. "Their size and athleticism presented some challenges for us, and we didn't do a good enough job of taking care of the ball. But despite the result, I saw some positive signs tonight. We fought hard until the end, and we never gave up. That's the kind of character I want to see from this team."

The Knights will look to bounce back quickly as they return to action on Tuesday, January 2nd, against Skyline Conference opponent St. Joseph's University-Long Island. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm at the Kaplan Center.
