MSMC Take Down Golden Eagles in a Skyline Clash

Patchogue, NY-

The Mount St. Mary Knights women's basketball team (6-5, 5-1 Skyline) put on a dominant performance tonight, defeating the St. Joseph's Golden Eagles (7-4, 4-2 Skyline) by a score of 69-56 in a thrilling Skyline Conference matchup.

Head Coach Marion Dietz praised her team's effort, saying, "Fantastic team win! We stuck to the game plan the entire time and didn't let mistakes linger with us. Total team win and a great start to the second half of our season."

The Knights were led by a pair of guards, Charlotte Twohig and Ciarra Quinn, who combined for 31 points. Twohig was efficient from downtown, knocking down three three-pointers, while Quinn's all-around game of 14 points, eleven rebounds, and two assists proved invaluable.

The Knights held a slim lead throughout the first half, but they pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Golden Eagles 15-13 to extend their lead to double digits. They maintained their advantage in the fourth quarter, securing the victory with a strong defensive effort.

Several other Knights contributed to the win. Lauren Petrie chipped in nine points and six rebounds, while Brianna Guglielmo added five points and ten rebounds. The bench also played a key role, providing 18 points, including a spark from Sara Cashin, who scored 12 points off the bench.

In contrast, the Golden Eagles struggled to find their rhythm offensively. Casey Travers led the way with 15 points, but no other player reached double figures. Their usually potent three-point shooting was held in check by the Knights' defense, as they finished 6-30 from beyond the arc.

With this victory, the Knights have now won five of their last six skyline conference games and are firmly in the hunt for the Skyline Conference title. They will look to build on their momentum when they host the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday at 1 PM.
