Knights Blanked At New Paltz

Brucato, Kakavas combine for 10 saves

New Paltz, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team opened a five-game road trip Thursday afternoon with a 4-0 non-conference loss at New Paltz. Caroline Brucato (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and Christina Kakavas (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) each made five saves in goal for the Knights.
 
Thursday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 0-3 overall on the season while the Hawks improve to 2-0-1 on the young season.
 
First Half
  • New Paltz opened the scoring early, getting the eventual game winning goal in the 11th minute. Parris Burke finished off an assist from Mia Baldinger at the 10:23 mark of the tilt to give the Hawks the early 1-0 advantage.
  • New Paltz doubled its lead in the 26th minute when Ally Donovan buried a pass from Burke at 25:53 to send the Hawks into the intermission with a two-goal advantage.
  • The Hawks closed out the opening 45 minutes with an 11-3 advantage in shots.
  • First half corner kicks went to New Paltz, 3-0.
  • Brucato rounded out the first half with five first half saves.
 
Second Half
  • The Hawks pushed their lead to three goals in the 62nd minute when Brooke Kelleher set up Gaby Treble at the 61:01 mark of the contest.
  • Dana Salinas closed out the scoring in the game in the 85th minute when she finished off Burke's second assist of the day at 84:40.
  • New Paltz outshot the Mount 17-1 in the second half.
  • Corner kicks after halftime went to the Hawks, 3-1.
  • Kakavas came on to make five saves after halftime for Mount Saint Mary.
 
For The Knights
  • Jaylin Labuda (Glen Spey, N.Y.), Megan Stosch (North Babylon, N.Y.), Wendy Guerra (Newburgh, N.Y.) and Mary Langan (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) all recorded a shot with Stosch posting the team's lone shot on goal.
  • Brucato finished with five saves and now has 12 stops on the year.
  • Kakavas also made five stops and is tied with Brucato with 12 stops through the season's first three games.
 
For The Hawks
  • Burke finished off a four-point game with a goal and a pair of assists.
  • Donovan, Salinas and Treble all added goals.
  • Kelleher and Baldinger each supported the win with assists.
  • Kyra Russo and Maddie Franklin combined on the shutout with Russo finishing with one save.
 
Game Statistics
  • New Paltz outshot the Mount 28-4 overall and 14-1 in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks went to the Hawks by a 6-1 count.
  • Fouls in the contest were whistled 12-10 against New Paltz.
 
What's Next
  • The Knights head to Maryland for a pair of games at the Salisbury Women's Soccer Classic starting with a tilt against the host Sea Gulls on Saturday.
  • New Paltz hosts Skidmore in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon.
