Women’s Soccer Topped By Ithaca

Hansen nets first career goal

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team opened the home schedule on Sunday with a 4-1 non-conference loss to visiting Ithaca. Kaitlin Hansen (Port Jervis, N.Y.) potted the Mount's goal, collecting her first career marker in the process.
 
Sunday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 0-2 overall on the season, while the Bombers improve to 2-0.
 
First Half
  • Ally Stanton got the Bombers on the board in the early going, scoring her first of two goals in the game at the 5:29 mark. She finished off a pass from Delaney Rutan to give the visitors the early one goal advantage.
  • Just over 20 minutes into the contest, the game was stopped due to lightning for nearly two hours.
  • Upon resumption of play, Rutan set up Stanton for her second goal of the first half, giving Ithaca a 2-0 lead at the 24:29 mark of the tilt.
  • The Bombers finished the opening 45 minutes with an 11-1 advantage in shots.
  • Corner kicks in the first period were even at 3-3.
  • Christina Kakavas (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) stopped four first half shots for the Knights.
 
Second Half
  • Ithaca opened a three-goal advantage in the early stages of the second half when Clare Sunderland banged home a feed from Devin Sylvia in the 58th minute.
  • Trailing by three goals, Mount Saint Mary got on the board for the first time in 2022 when Hansen finished off her first career tally. Off a rebound on a corner kick, Darla Petricca (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) found Hansen inside the box and she tucked a shot inside the near post at 59:52 to bring the Knights to within 3-1.
  • Ithaca spread its lead back to three goals and closed out the scoring in the game in the final minute when Rosie Bostian picked up a turnover at the top of the box and scored into an open net at 89:20.
  • The Bombers posted a 13-2 advantage in shots after halftime.
  • Corner kicks in the second half went to Ithaca 5-2.
  • Caroline Brucato (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) came on for the Knights and made three second half saves in goal.
 
For The Knights
  • Hansen moves into the team lead with goals (1) and points (2) and finished the day with one shot.
  • Petricca picks up her first point of the season with an assist.
  • Hansen, Raina Quinones (West Babylon, N.Y.) and Shannon McGowan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) all finished with one shot in the game.
  • Kakavas made her first start of the season and stands with seven saves in 90 minutes played.
  • Brucato also adds seven stops in two games after her three-save performance on Sunday.
 
For The Bombers
  • Stanton led the way with two goals and four points in the victory, including the game winning tally.
  • Rutan assisted on each of Stanton's goals.
  • Bostian potted her first goal of the year and led the team with six shots.
  • Sunderland added her first marker and attempted five shots in the game.
  • Claire Reader earned her second win in as many outings in goal with a pair of saves.
 
Match Statistics
  • Ithaca finished with a commanding 24-3 advantage in shots, including an 11-3 edge in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks went to the Bombers, 8-5.
  • Fouls in the tilt were whistled against the Bombers, 11-7.

  • Mount Saint Mary makes the short trip to New Paltz on September 8 for a 4:00 p.m. kick-off with the Hawks.
