Knights Have Winning Streak Stopped At Farmingdale State

Riddle posts double-double

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team saw its six-match winning streak come to an end Tuesday night following a 15-25, 18-25, 16-25 road conference loss at Farmingdale State. Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) finished the night with a double-double for the Knights.
 
Tuesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 7-5 overall and to 2-1 in conference play, while the Rams improve to 2-7 overall and 1-1 in league competition.
 
How It Happened
  • After the Knights pulled to within 11-10 in the opening set, the Rams ripped off four straight points to move in front 15-10.
  • Back-to-back kills from Cathleen Farrell pushed Farmingdale State in front 20-13 before the Rams scored the final four points of the frame to grab a 1-0 lead.
  • Farmingdale State put away 15 kills in the second set and limited the Mount to just six winners to take a 2-0 lead.
  • The Knight used a Riddle kill and two Ram miscues to take a 9-6 lead before Farmingdale State scored five of the next seven points to grab a 13-11 lead.
  • The middle frame remained tight until the late stages when the Rams closed on a 6-0 run keyed by two kills and an ace from Farrell.
  • Farmingdale State used 10 more kills and hit .286 in the final set, while holding the Mount to just five winners.
  • Mount Saint Mary scored the first four points of the third stanza, including an ace from Erin Lema (Centereach, N.Y.) and a kill from Riddle.
  • The Mount maintained the lead until a 4-0 stretch from the Rams that knotted things at 6-6.
  • Farmingdale State used a 6-1 spurt to grab a 12-8 lead and an identical run to surge in front 18-10 on a Lexi Cavalieri service ace.
  • The Knights would put together consecutive points just once the rest of the set before the Rams used a service error to close out the sweep.
 
For The Knights
  • Riddle put away 12 of the team's 17 kills in the contest and led the team with 15 digs. Riddle now stands at 970 career kills, just 23 shy of matching the program's all-time record.
  • Lema finished the night with a pair of kills, three digs and two aces.
  • Angelyse Orellana (Newark, N.J.) recorded two aces.
  • Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) handed out 17 assists and chipped in an ace and nine digs.
 
For The Rams
  • Farrell closed out a big night with a match-high 15 kills to go along with four aces and 11 digs.
  • Kalena Ricketts added 12 winners, hitting .455, and added a block.
  • Mikayla Profeta added eight kills and a match-high five service aces.
  • Cavalieri handed out 21 assists and lifted six digs.
 
Match Statistics
  • Farmingdale State held a commanding 40-17 advantage in kills, hitting .304 as a team against a .037 effort from the Knights.
  • The Rams controlled the service game with a 15-6 edge in aces.
  • Total team blocks also went to Farmingdale State 4-1.
 
What's Next
  • Mount Saint Mary heads to Montclair State on Saturday for matches with the Red Hawks and Brooklyn College.
  • Farmingdale State hosts Purchase Thursday night.
