Knights Ground Gryphons, 5-2

Maggi scores twice, Wyant collects two assists

Yonkers, N.Y. – Christopher Maggi (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scored twice and Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) assisted on two goals as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team cruised to a 5-2 Skyline Conference road win at Sarah Lawrence Tuesday night.
 
Tuesday's victory moves the Mount's unbeaten streak to three games and improves its record to 4-4-2 overall and 2-1-1 in Skyline Conference play. Sarah Lawrence drops to 4-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in league action.
 
First Half
  • Mount Saint Mary wasted little time grabbing the lead on Tuesday with Maggi potting his second goal of the season in the 10th minute. He gave the Knights the early one-goal advantage at the 9:23 mark.
  • Quinn Tynan (Schenectady, N.Y.) followed with his first career goal in the 21st minute when he finished off Wyant's first assist at the 20:24 mark for the 2-0 advantage.
  • Maggi struck again late in the half when he potted his second goal of the game, off a feed from Wyant, at 41:19.
  • Mount Saint Mary controlled play over the opening 45 minutes, finishing the half with a 19-5 advantage in shots.
  • Corner kicks in the first half were even at 2-2.
  • Casesar Martinez (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) held the Gryphons off the board with three first half saves.
  • Kian Silva posted six stops in net for Sarah Lawrence.
 
Second Half
  • Mount Saint Mary extended its lead to four goals early in the second half when Peter Ramirez (New Windsor, N.Y.) scored for the second straight contest. He tallied his second goal of the year at the 50:49 mark of the tilt.
  • The lead ballooned to 5-0 in the 79th minute when Rob Kaufman (Mullica Hill, N.J.) tallied for the first time in his career at the 78:12 mark.
  • Sarah Lawrence struck twice in the final four minutes when Peter Miles scored two goals just under three minutes apart to get the Gryphons on the board.
  • Shots in the second half went to Sarah Lawrence, 10-7.
  • Sarah Lawrence took the only four corner kicks after halftime.
  • Martinez stopped two more Sarah Lawrence attempts after the break.
  • Silva made three saves for the Gryphons after halftime.
 
For The Knights
  • Maggi moved into a tie for first on the team in goals with three following his two-goal night.
  • Wyant pushed his team lead in assists to six and points to 12.
  • Ramirez scored his second of the year.
  • Tynan and Kaufaman became the eighth and ninth different Knights to find the scoring column in 2022 with their first career markers.
  • Wyant and Maggi each led the team with seven shots, with Maggi recording five shots on goal.
  • Martinez closed out the victory with five saves in goal.
 
For The Gryphons
  • Miles scored his first two goals of the season late in regulation time.
  • Leon Bronshvag and Caleb Gerdeman each finished with an assist.
  • Silva turned aside nine Mount Saint Mary shots in the contest.
 
Match Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary closed the night with a 26-15 advantage in overall shots and a 14-7 edge in shots on goal.
  • Sarah Lawrence finished with a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • Fouls in the tilt went against the Knights 13-8.
