Men’s Soccer Wins Third Straight, Powers Past Farmingdale 3-0

Maggi scores twice, Lopez records first career assist

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team won their third straight game with a 3-0 victory over Farmingdale on Saturday afternoon. Chris Maggi (Franklin Square, N.Y.) potted two goals and J.C. Lopez (East Islip, N.Y.) notched his first career assist in the win.

Saturday's win moves Mount Saint Mary to 5-4-2 overall and 3-1-1 in Skyline Conference play, while Farmingdale slips to 2-5-2, and 0-2-2 in league action.

First Half

· Mount Saint Mary got the scoring started early. In the 11th minute, Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) hit a pass to Marco Mazzarelli (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), who fed Maggi to set up his first score of the contest at the 10:34 mark, to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.

· The Knights would score again at the 17:56 mark, this time off the foot of Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.). Rob Kaufman (Mullica Hill, N.J.) hooked a pass to Lopez, who hit Doyle and he would land it in the back of the net to extend the Knights lead to 2-0.

· The Knights outshot the Rams 5-4 in the first 45 minutes of play.

· Corner kicks went in the Mount's favor 3-2 in the first half.

· Caesar Martinez (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) made two saves prior to intermission.

Second Half

· The Knights wasted little time adding to their lead after halftime. At the 54:31 mark, Maggi scored his second goal of the contest, this one unassisted to give Mount Saint Mary a 3-0 cushion.

· Mount Saint Mary outshot the Rams 5-3 after intermission.

· Farmingdale held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks following the break.

· Fouls were whistled against the Knights 11-7 in the second half.

· Martinez made two more stops to complete the shutout.

For The Knights

· Maggi's two goals moves him into the team lead with five on the season. He has now scored four goals over the past two contests.

· Lopez recorded his first career assist on his feed to Doyle. Doyle scored his second goal of the season.

· Kaufman and Mazzarelli each recorded their first assist of the campaign, while Wyant notched his team leading seventh assist.

· Martinez posted his fifth shutout of the season after making four saves between the pipes.

For The Rams

· Luke Kasulke led the offense as he put three shots on target for the Rams.

· Tyree Baskin Jr. added another shot on goal.

· Justin Silva made four saves in goal.

Match Statistics

· Mount Saint Mary held the advantage in shots 10-7, including 7-4 in shots on goal.

· Corner kicks were an even 4-4 over 90 minutes of action.

· Fouls went against Farmingdale 18-16 for the match.

What's Next

· The Knights will have six days off before travelling to Purchase to take on the Panthers on October 8.

· Farmingdale will host Old Westbury as the visitors on Tuesday.
