Stosch, Mihale tally for the Knights

New York, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team returned to Skyline Conference play and got back into the win column Tuesday night following a 2-0 road victory at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. Megan Stosch (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Emma Mihale (Oceanside, N.Y.) provided the scoring for the Knights in the win.
 
Tuesday's win improves Mount Saint Mary to 2-6-1 overall on the season and 2-0-0 in conference play, while the Bears fall to 2-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in league action. Tuesday's win also pushes Mount Saint Mary to 6-0 against St. Joseph's since the start of the 2015 season.
 
First Half
  • Mount Saint Mary broke through with the eventual game winning goal in the 27th minute when Stosch deposited her third goal of the year at the 26:53 mark of the contest. She accepted a pass from Angie Mainiero (Vineland, N.J.) and beat St. Joseph's keeper, Julia Marin, for the early one goal advantage.
  • The Knights scored on one of five shots attempted in the first half, completing the opening stanza with a 5-1 advantage in attempts.
  • The Knights took the only three corner kicks prior to halftime.
  • Christina Kakavas (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) stopped the only shot she faced in the first 45 minutes.
  • Marin closed the first half with a pair of stops for the Bears.
 
Second Half
  • Mount Saint Mary controlled the play coming out of halftime and broke through with an insurance tally in the 72nd minute. Mihale potted her second goal of the year when she controlled a bad clear from the Bears and buried a shot to the top left corner.
  • The Knights outshot St. Joseph's 10-0 in the second frame.
  • Mount Saint Mary finished the second half with another 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.
 
For The Knights
  • Stosch moved into the team lead in goals with her third of the year and stands in a three-way tie for the team lead in points with six.
  • Mainiero picked up her second assist of the season to push her point total to six.
  • Mihale scored her second of the season and joined Mainiero and Stosch atop the team leaderboard in points with six.
  • Darla Petricca (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) led the Knights with four shots in the game, including three on goal.
  • Kakavas made her second start of the season in goal, earning the shutout with a single save.
 
For The Bears
  • Mia Castaneda recorded the only shot of the game for St. Joseph's.
  • Marin concluded the tilt with nine saves in goal for the Bears.
 
Game Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary finished with a commanding 15-1 advantage in shots overall and an 11-1 edge in shots on target.
  • Corner kicks went to the Mount by a 6-0 count.
  • Fouls in the contest were whistled 8-6 against the Bears.
