Women’s Soccer Topples Yeshiva, 6-0

Two Knights finish with two goals

Purchase, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team took down Yeshiva 6-0 on the road Thursday night in its conference opener. Angie Mainiero (Vineland, N.J.) and Wendy Guerra (Newburgh, N.Y.) each contributed two goals apiece in the win.  

Thursday's win moves Mount Saint Mary to 1-5-1 overall on the season. The Knights have now won 11 straight over Yeshiva since 2007. 

First Half 

  • The Knights got the scoring started early, with Mainiero scoring at the 12:54 mark off a feed from Maggie Zecca (Mountainside, N.J.). 

  • Guerra would then score her first of the game at the 21:43 mark, this one coming via a penalty kick. Guerra then put another one in the back of the net six and a half minutes later, this one off a pass from Mainiero, to make it 3-0. 

  • Darla Petricca (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) got on the board in the 38th minute on an unassisted score, and Mainiero would get her second of the contest 20 seconds later on an assist by Emma Mihale (Oceanside, N.Y.), to send the Mount into intermission with a 5-0 lead. 

  • The Knights fired off 29 shots in the first half, to Yeshiva's zero. 

  • Corner kicks went in the Knights favor 5-0. 

Second Half 

  • The second half was quieter than the first, with Megan Stosch (North Babylon, N.Y.) finding the net in the 78th minute on a feed from Petricca for the Knights lone goal of the half. 

  • The Mount let off 27 more shots in the second half. 

  • The Knights added seven more corner kicks after halftime. 

For The Knights 

  • Thursday's game saw four different goal scorers, and six different Knights with at least a point.  

  • Mainiero led the team with six shots on goal, as well as five points on the night.  

  • Guerra scored two goals, while Petricca and Stosch each scored a goal. 

  • Goalkeeper Marilena Mangiaracina (Franklin Square, N.Y.) earned the shutout without having to make a save. 

For The Maccabees 

  • Goalkeeper Daniella Besser made 29 saves for Yeshiva. 

Match Statistics 

  • Mount Saint Mary closed the game having outshot Yeshiva 56-0, with 35 of those being on goal. 

  • The Knights had the advantage in corner kicks 12-0 for the contest. 

What's Next 

  • The Knights will take on Skidmore at home in a non-conference match Saturday. 

  • Yeshiva will face off with Manhattanville in a Skyline Conference game on Sunday.
